Are these cubes in my compost???

I originally posted this in the growing forum - sorry for double posting - I'm not sure how to move the post... Anyway I threw a couple of old P. Equadorius cakes - which I believed to be dried up and dead - into the compost and went away for a month. When I came back I found a bunch of mushrooms growing. It looks like the cakes came back to life because there is mycelium growing off of the cakes and into the compost. However the mushrooms do not stain blue. The original cakes did stain blue. They do however resemble very large cubes in most other ways. Also, you cant see it in the photos but the smaller ones do have veils. The spores are black. The compost is mostly horse shit which was bought and put in the compost bin just before I left... It seems very likely they are cubes, but I am worried by the total lack of blue bruising. Anyway I was hoping someone could give me some advice as to whether these are cubes and if not what they might be?

Looks immediately like a Psathyrella sp., but... not easy to say. How is the texture of the stems and caps? Perhaps you could try split or cut a stem or two, and take some pictures. And take a spore print. It should be either dark purplish or black.
They don't look like cubensis in any case. Cap shape makes me think possibly Panaeolus sp., thinking something akin to P. antillarum, but again, hard to tell.
Whatever it is they look like they had a treat fruiting in you compost bin - some large and healthy specimens!

The texture of the stem is like cubes. Slightly hollow in the middle and kind of snaps off but a bit stringy (it's hard to describe but is very similar to cubes). [Edit: The texture of the cap is pretty much the same as cubes too.] There are more of them growing and these have gotten a bit raggedy, so I'll take a spore print when there is a new one opening tomorrow.

No veil on the undershot and no bruising that I can see so I don't think it's cubensis either. Somewhat striking similarity though. My best educated guess would be Psathyrella.

Dear catterpillar:
Please stop trying to convince yourself that these are cubes. Everyone is basically voting against it.
Obviously, if the fruits from your cakes bruised blue during your controlled grow and these do not bruise blue they are NOT the same mushroom. If you compared them side by side, they probably are vastly different.
To me, they immediately looked nothing more than TOXIC.
I get contaminate mushrooms growing from spent/composted sub all the time.
Just make some new cakes.
Stay Alive.

Don't worry, I have plenty of actual cubes and no desire to poison myself. I am really curious about what they are though.
[Edit: I just describe their texture as being "like cubes" because I can't think of any better way to explain it]

Yeah after observation, i really wouldn't say these look like P.cubensis, it seems to be lacking some features. However, they don't appear to be toxic and overall, these mushrooms have beautiful growth, very nice. I would say that they are very likely Psathyrella sp. But I'm no T I
