I heard that all the old strains are now "extinct", however i have smoked bud from mexico on several occasions that was seeded and gold frosted( when in texas) that got me more stoned than most hybrids do. I would thjnk this was "acapulco gold", it was not bricked. Has anyone else had bud like this recently? I doubt the genes are gone forever just harder to find because of the cartels more or less takin over down south.

Most landrace strains are extinct. Thousands of seeds from Netherlands have been sent to Mexico, just because you had good weed from there does not mean your weed was Acapulco Gold. Jamaica is the same thing, you can't really find any real Jamaican strains as they all grow imports. If you want landrace strains you could go to Afganistan, Africa, Middle east as those places are still third world mud hut farmers who don't get seeds from internet. Mexican farmers are way more connected to the outside world. Anyway people in the USA complained about brick and the Mexicans adapted. What they grow now on average is way better than 10-15 years ago. Thank dispensary competition. You can't really expect Mexican farmers to breed their own strains and spend years doing it when they can just get strains that are proven and consistent for 50 bucks. The world is losing cannabis genetics every year, not just land race strains. Popular 80's and 90's strains are mostly gone too. Enjoy the Kush, unless there is a massive effort to save old strains it's going to be all that's left.

I recently sampled a light colored bud that came to me via Atlanta. Was sold as Acapulco Gold and had a different taste than most flavors around these days. A nice strong energetic high, apparently sativa dominant. I also found 8 dark seeds in my 1/4 oz, I germanated 4 which sprouted in 24 hrs. We'll see how they turn out.
Back in the 70's, I did come across weed called Acapulco Gold more than a few times, though I don't remember a distinctive taste. The Jamaican back then did have a unique flavor, as did the Columbian,(and the Hawaiian, which came later.) The only other different type with a name was 'homegrown', which was kinda bragging rights because you knew a hippie that grew.
But what did we know back then? Most pot was Mexican, and if it had a name, it just cost more.(25-35/oz as opposed to 15 or 20 ) The words Indica, hydro, skunk etc weren't even used.
I'm looking forward to growing this strain out, as I really love the high from it. Whether it's 'Acapulco Gold' or not, I could care less.

The classic Acapulco Gold isn't around as far as I know but there is an updated strain around these days by the same name.

I appreciate both yalls input, so as far as anyone can prove, there never was an "acupulco gold", just a native landrace from acapulco mexico that was just sold as that name, not being a particular set of isolated traits other than being gold. You are saying the weed i got from mexico was a dutch strain, i find that unlikely. Why would you buy seed when you have bomb genetics in your own backyard that puts out kilos of bud per plant, andn is already acclimated ro your environment? This was a pure sativa. Jamaica had african landraces, they were a dutch colony as well.
