Any suggestions on types of pot or specific strains?

This post is going to be about pot and anxiety/sleep.
I haven't been smoking much in the past years. The last time I went somewhere that recreational marijuana sales were legal was in '01 when I went to Amsterdam, when I was 15. Started smoking there, but since I was only there for a week, and since I was just a young head, I didn't get much experience under my belt. It was pretty much just "smoke pot, get stoned, eat, enjoy", and I didn't have much ability to really analyze my high.
You guys know how smoking in the states is- different batches of headies with different names come through, and some, like NYC Diesel or Trainwreck or the Skunks or whatever have memorable enough appearances/smells/effects that it seems legit when they come around.
But now, I'm moving to Denver (long story in itself) and I'm looking to get pot that won't cause anxiety when I smoke, and pot that I can smoke to help me sleep.
I know that generally indicas are recommended for these effects, but that also the curing process is a large factor in the type and quality of a high.
My question is, is going for pure indicas or indica dominant enough, or should I be on the lookout for specific strains? If so, any recommendations?
I've seen a few websites where people rate different bud and the notable aspects of the bud are listed, but there are just so many varieties it's hard to know where to start.
This site seems pretty helpful, you can pick your symptoms and it recommends strains.
http://www.medicalmarijuanastrains.com/strain-guide/
Any advice would be appreciated.

Pennywise is an indica with not too high THC but a lot of CBD.
I have a ton of anxiety/OCD/paranoia when I smoke pot and I tried this. I still felt like I had to endure the high. But that's what it's there for, so I guess it's worth a shot.
There's a website where you can search if different dispensaries have a specific strain. I think it's weedmaps.com

If you have anxiety and sleep problems get a script for some benzodiazapenes. Pot makes you sleepless and can cause anxiety, that's pretty much the MO of THC as a drug. Period. I've smoked weed on and off for 20+ years and while I like weed, there's no such thing as a strain that doesn't cause at least a bit of sleeplessness and paranoia. I generally go for indicas, especially purples that are higher in CBDs and lower in THC for weed that I can smoke a bowl of, enjoy the flavor and a nice mild high and still fall asleep and not get 'noided. Stay away from the uber-strong sativas that will have you tripping balls.

Blue Cheese. Clear head, energetic, motivating, induces appetite, helps you sleep. Tastes good and smells dank as fuck. My all time favourite strain.

No benzos for me, got heavily addicted to them (docs had me on max dose of k-pin and valium for years). I think a lot depends on my mood going into getting stoned, but even when there were times where I felt anxious/angry/down, whatever, there were certain types of pot that would get me feeling right.
Guess I'll have to do some field research.

Indicas with a low THC would be a good place to start then, they are more relaxing and less stimulating than high THC sativas. IME, no strain of pot will replace benzos for what they're good at, which is relieving sleep onset insomnia and anxiety. Obviously if you've abused them in the past then stay away from them.

A little off, but "church" was too much for me. Of all the wild strains hybrids I've smoked that one made me lay my head down on the table and go to sleep, and I just cleared a glass that was being passed around (not a big hit). Good for bed I guess.

Also, if you're going to be just walking into a store in Colorado, you should just tell the dude at the counter what's up, they will probably give you a few options and be knowledgeable enough to steer you in the right direction. It's not like you need to go in knowing exactly what strain you need to buy, shit's legal and ubiquitous there, and the town is full of heads that will fill you in.

Strawberry Cough is the most anxiety relieving strain I've tried, it's 80/20 sativa/indica.

Blueberry was pretty good for anxiety for me, but it was good and motivational to me. Black Diamonia was good for sleep.

Generally that's only true for me if I get stoned as shit too quickly.
If I sit down and smoke a joint by myself, just puff puff puff, or smoke a whole bowl, I'm probably gonna have a bad time.
If I sit down, take a puff, let it kick in, take another puff or two, let that kick in, have some good music playing, I'm on cloud 9 and can get as stoned as I want.
It's just the onset of the buzz that can create anxiety for me. As long as I get a smooth transition in, I'm golden.

Any kind of Indica based strain of Cannabis, Will have a "Stonier" "Couch-lock" and sleepy high. Usually the more dominant and strictly Indica strains are more therapeutic and better for anxiety and nighttime such as getting to sleep, also for pain To where Sativa dominant strains of Cannabis have more of a "Uplifting" or "social" high, this kind is generally preferred for day-time consumption, due to its abilities to boost energy with a feeling of euphoria and a strong increase in appetite, Now with that being said, take note that i took that out of the Weed growing bible, and its definitely true. But then you have Hybrids, which is what the majority of modern growers are using, most strains of weed are crossed between Indica and Sativa. Now as being a former grower, and a long time smoker, I've found that everyone is different and unique, but one thing is for positive, Cannabis is very beneficial in so many ways. Even on a spiritual level, marijuana is so crucial. So now i am gonna share three of my favorite strains to grow and smoke. 1.)Endless Sky . this strain is very remarkable and is highly recommended to any relatively new indoor hydroponic cultivator, It grows from seed very quickly and once you have mother plant with ability to make clones(cuttings) you can grow a crop of this 40%,sativa,60% Indica plant in a flowing (budding period),of 6-8 weeks to full maturity. Very skunky and earthy aroma, very sticky and promised to STONE you the fuck out if grown properly. Also i must add this strain is very resistant to high temperatures and yeilds very high weight
2.) "The church" this strain was ordered from a website in Amsterdam, and it is a Sativa Dominant strain, also a very high yeilder, she is a cross of "white widow" "northern lights" which makes the strain "Chrystal" then crossed with Skunk #1 and Super skunk#48 which creates "Church" You can look this all up and verify all this information if you think im joking I know my weed 3.) "Chrystal" this strain is a cross of White widow and northern lights as previously mentioned, she is a little harder to cultivate in my experience, and she is a little more sensitive, but through years of trial, proved to be a very superior strain of Cannabis, in aspect of THC level, in aspect of yeild, in every way this plant seemed to amaze me and others miraculously, and it also won cannabis cup awards about a decade ago. I highly recommend these strains to anyone to smoke, or grow This is all speaking from personal experience and opinion. -peace

This isn't what you want to hear and everyone will disagree, but I don't care. There is no difference. Sativa and Indica are exactly the same. The idea you need indica for sleep or whatever is just hippy myth bullshit, no science has shown this. Pot heads blame the lack of evidence on prohibition so I decided to test it. When I get weed for people I tell them sativa is indica and vice versa and no one has ever noticed. If you need weed for sleep I get you sativa and tell you it is indica and no one ever knows. Ever. Getting people to test weed and guess what it is also fails. People don't guess better than chance. Bunch of placebo effects here. People feel what they expect to feel. The idea one strain is better for medical effects vs another is not proven by science. And it's not true. And if you don't believe me try smoking it blind not knowing what it is. If you can tell sativa/indica in blind taste test i will say i was wrong, but I have to meet anyone who can.

Sativa and indica are the same? no. Dude, that's why they're literally 2 different species. A horse and a cow both have 4 legs but they're different too... If you were to grow both species from pure landrace specimens you'd see they are quite different.
The look, growth parameter, flowering time ect, are quite opposite. Most strains nowadays are a mix.
In general, sativas are a soaring "high" ... the kind that makes folkis paranoid, and most pure indicas have the effect generally known as "couch lock"
If you were to smoke my strain called gumdrop you'd agree it feels like opiates on the body. if compared to the purple OG 18 that my buddy grows which is like riding a fear coaster....
Anyway, science says they're different species so you can chalk that up as a "scientific fact"

I find that eating cannabis helps me sleep better than smoking it does. When you make infused butter or coconut oil, it is heated and changes some of the cannabinoids in the process.
I find the effect to be very different when I eat edibles, much more sedative. I usually get amazing sleep afterwards. The only downside is sometimes I get hangovers from going that route. Not as bad as alcohol hangovers, but noticeable.
