Mycopiss or Contam?
    #18389218 - 06/08/13 07:14 PM (10 years, 9 months ago)

Soo....the other year I came back after finding some old jars that looked like dried up sponges that I wouldn't have thought would have worked for a grain to grain transfer without a miserable failure.

That turned out to healthfully spawn 15 grain to grain jars with some OK yields/results.

I found another jar, probably just as old, from a different species.

Its mostly white except for the areas of excess dryness, but its got about an inch of this free floating liquid on the bottom.

Wondering if its a contam, or just quite a well of expelled antibiotics or whatever it is that gets secreted.

Trying to attempt another "resurrection" Please let me know what you think this is

I know theres a lot of threads like this, I didn't know if i should just post my photo in one of those.  I have a feeling its just piss, but I'm mildly retarded.

Shit.  I wonder how cobweb would have gotten in there if it hadn't been opened in a year +.  Thanks for the input! really appreciate it.

Where do you see cobweb? IIRC, that stuff forms very thin strands and grows FAST. I'd think it would be all over the place by now. The mycelium looks a bit fuzzy but that's normal. If I had to place bets I'd say it is collected waste. Especially if the jar has been sitting around so long.

As for whether or not it's viable, you got me.

haha ive misplaced jars and forgotten them over a years span too. I never took the chance to try fruiting them, but maybe i should have at least once or twice. you can't really say it didn't work till you try.

but anyway, looks like mycopiss to me.

OP your jars are too wet, let me guess that water was clear before it was yellow.  How old are those jars?

Ahhh I see.  No, that's just vacant space far as I can tell.  Happens when you don't rinse your grain well enough ime, it gets clumpy and does that sometimes.  Truly is difficult knowing for sure without seeing it in person.

Ahh, thanks! I'd figured it was just due to shriveling up and old age/moisture loss!

Going to give er' a try.

Just based on the massive amount of metabolites I would be surprised if the jar wasn't contaminated. Also I don't know if you noticed any pins but any viable jar would likely have started pinning during that time.

You should seriously be a TC, I've seen nothing but solid advice/reasoning from you.

He said the jar was a year old.  I remember reading somewhere that mycelium naturally produce this after a really long time of chowing down on the grains.  He even said the jars are safe to spawn.  Where I read this I don't remember.
