there's a girl I met once who used to be a satanist. She and her satanist friends used magic to gain power. By this she means that they would make use of language to manipulate people. For example the word satan has a lot of baggage attached to it, so they call themselves satanists and it fucks with people's minds and how people see the satanists so the satanists gain power.

I was a satanist when I was a kid. I used Anton LaVey's treatises for performing rituals with a few friends of mine. We weren't disciplined enough to be successful. It's all attention. It's all the power of awareness. Everything is awareness, and how that awareness is channelled is how things manifest. This as simple as it sounds is the master key to all spirituality, and satanism.

The real website for the Satanic Church.
Satanism is a philosophy based essentially on reversing the primary ideals of the major religions of the world, claiming the reversal to be the essence of the "real world". It boasts as it's golden rule "Do unto others as they do unto you", a dictum suggesting that meeting or exceeding the aggression put against us is a way of solving problems, ensuring the strongest and most worthy are in control, and keeping a civil order based upon a hierarchy enforced by brute force and intimidation.
And, unfortunately, such a philosophy is essentially the "real world". Though, if we look carefully, we'll discover that this kind of self-focus as at the basis of the suffering of the world: the famine, disease, poverty, war and pollution. Anton suggests somewhat indirectly that we should attempt to distance ourselves from these effects by indulging in our carnal passions, using our wit to manipulate and control others to ends that are ultimately destructive. Though, it is inescapable that the problems of war, famine and disease specifically eventually impact every citizen of this earth.
All of this being so, it's my personal opinion that Satanism is a religion based less on awareness and much more upon ignorance. The irony is that Anton LaVey emphasizes all throughout his writings that "ignorance is the greatest sin." This is probably the only common ground he has with other theologies.

and... what of the supposed luciferian cabals hidden in the murky corners of the masonic lodges ??? ~ remember, the first black mass celebrated in the 20th century was held by "uncle al" crowley - & not everyone in the circle walked out under their own power at the conclusion of the ritual... ~ & what of the concept of "the loyal opposition" ??? ... some wiccans and pagans have told me that the upside down pentagram is bigoted. But by that same logic, the upward pointing pentagram is just as bigoted.
thats why I like the merkaba, or better yet, Metatron's cube, because these shapes contain both upward and downward pentagrams, and are thus more balanced than either of these shapes.
The merkaba is the Tao of sacred geometry!

here are the 11 "laws" of satanism Found here - http://www.dpjs.co.uk/ethics.html#Rules
1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked 2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them 3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there 4. If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy 5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal 6. Do not steal (paraphrased) 7 is not relevant. (deals with magic) 8. Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself 9. Do not harm little children 10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food 11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him

^^^^^^^^^^^^ thats the kind of satanism I have always thought of when someone asked me what Satanism is: its more about self-reliance and independance than outright evil. But there's also a helluva lot of posuers that claim to be satanists and have much different tenets.

Ya.. the Satanism I know was pretty respectable But there is just as much dogma and factions of it as their is in christianity. Some Satanists exist purely as anti-christians.

5. Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal Is not a mating signal a sexual advance? Mating signals are highly ambiguous. Even "obvious" ones may have more to do with control than mating.
Do not harm little children Up to what age, height or weight before it is OK to harm them?

Let's not forget the chapter on "Satanic Sex", about using magic and manipulation to lure individuals into satisfying our sexual appetites.

I get a similar bad taste from it. A few of my friends tried to get into Satanism back in high school, it didn't last very long.. though I can say their downward spiral into ignorance, hatred, and belligerence was pretty spectacular
Oh yes and who can forget the chapter on Psychic Vampires.

Is it better to use a Ferrari or position of leadership or play in a rock 'n roll band to lure individuals into satisfying our sexual appetites?
Or is it prefereable to be sexually disatisfied?

I didn't know logic had love in the first place? I mean..when I say.. I love you guys.. I'm not thinking.. logically.. this is the most rational thing. I'm feeling that I love you.. so I guess I've always thought love comes from emotion.

sometimes logic doesn't see love (or any emotion, for that matter) as a factor. this is when it fails to be useful for survival.

Very good.. and often we put up a barrier between logic and emotion, where one does not recognize or acknowledge the other. So ideally, an integrated being would want equal harmony between both polarities?

Sorry, just being a smartass! Actually, I think you have a point about the seperation of logic/emotion. In myself for example, in the past I encouraged the growth of my mind to a degree that it outstripped my emotional growth. I couldn't go any further with my mind until I addressed the relative immaturity of my emotional self. So balance does seem to be key. Anyhoo, I have the feeling I've drifted way off topic..this is a thread on Swam err Satanism? lol While I'm off topic, allow me to say that tonight is the next to last night I will be working overnight! Yay!! *pats self on back* " And now, back to your regularly scheduled program.. "

I remember Anton LaVey made Marilyn Manson a reverend in his Church of Satan to promote it.
It all seems like a joke, which surprises me why they don't just let anyone in.

I had an English teacher in high school who was marking provincial exams and he found one with an essay all about how the person writing the essay was being controlled by the devil so that he couldn't think of anything to wrote. He wrote pages and pages about how the devil was stopping him from writing. That's pretty weird.

Some of the principles in Satanism I use in my life, tho a bit toned down:
1. Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked 2. Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them 3. When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there 10. Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food 11. When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him
Those are the ones I find relevant. #11 toned down tho. Just leave if you don't like some guy. Just keep walking. #3 seems good. One should always take off their shoes in someone elses house!

Yeah.. some of them have some sense to them I especially think number 3 is important. It's important to me to respect other people's houses when I am there, as I would expect the same. Not just shoes.. but pretty much everything. But then, if you read the actual extended versions of those rules.. they go a bit far. Satanism is all about those things, but if people fuck around, kill them, or make them as miserable as possible by treating them cruely and without mercy. I don't agree with those principles. Some of the foundations of the rules I agree with, but not the intentions behind them.

yeah, satanism is a real "eye for an eye" philosophy. One could say that both government and certain kinds of science are forms of satanism.
I was attracted to satanism as a kid for a short while, mainly because of the central theme of autonomy and being subservient to no one. Thats really what I saw satanism as: refusal to recognize a master.
But I was already into the occult when I got involved in satanism... One of my friends that was into it killed himself. I astral projected after his funeral and talked to him for awhile. I was like: "Dude, are you in hell?" And he was like: "Yo, I've already been there."
But he was fading away. His eyes were like television static. It was very sad.

But I was already into the occult when I got involved in satanism... I don't think this is what you were saying DoctorJ, but I just wanted to point out that [contrary to popular belief] the "occult" is not synonymous with witchcraft or satanism. It simply means that which is "hidden". Morally, it is connected with neither good nor evil. The term has been misappropriated by hysterical media-types since the 1970's and I just wanted to make a counter-claim on behalf of its original meaning. It is fascinating how anything connected with laymen's actual spiritual experiences, as opposed to book-reading and faith, inevitably over time acquires a negative or demonic connotation. How does that happen?? (As an experiment, try meeting one-on-one with your local pastor and mention seeing angels or the like. See what kind of reaction you get.) It seems that religious leaders feel very threatened by anyone who has an actual connection to the realm of spirit. So the slander campaign is a must to retain their hold on power. "We can't allow anyone to cut us out as middlemen now can we?" In Supreme Irony, by seperating their flock from the source of spirit, they are working for..guess who?

Actually, I have not as yet seen that movie, Entelle. I will have to put it on my list! Yes, organized religion is a mess. That's not to say that there is not some good to be found in its tomes. Many people have knee-jerk negative reactions to even a hint of anything religious. Even after inserting *clear* disclaimers in my posts, I have noticed that whenever I use a Bible quote in a post, it automatically generates a negative response from someone. And that's sad because the Bible does contain some powerful truths that are stated in an commonly recognizable poetic way. Religious texts are frequently inconsistent and misused, but truth is where you find it. Anti-religious bigotry is just as wrong as anti-secular bigotry.
