New culture from year old dried shrooms?

I have some year old dried shrooms stored under vacuum in my freezer. I'm curious, can I take a cutting from one of these and sterilize it & hydrate it; would it grow if I put it on an agar plate?
Sorry if this question has been asked before- I'm new to the site and this is my first post.

if you sterilize it you'll kill it but they're already dead and that won't work

You can grow from a dried mushroom, but I doubt a year old frozen mushroom kept in anaerobic conditions would still be viable.

if that mushroom was dried in a dehydrator it's dead 140F kills mycelium dead but 165F is about where the dehydrators operate. 165F is far from too hot to destroy actives though hence why a food dehydrator is the best way to dry shrooms unless you have 4K to spare on a freeze dryer

Just get some spores and start fresh.

Yes, absolutely worth trying! I'll share my experience.
I had a tissue that I got from a friend after we weren't able to get any more. We wanted to be able to keep it around for a few of us close friends. The sample was a couple years old and as such was not sealed. It was just a random bit from the bottom of a large bag that had been in and out of the freezer several times. It was dry and I'm sure that's important.
I took the sample containing a couple of stems and did a LOT of reading on culturing and fungi. In the mean time I took two small jars of distilled water and put two tissues samples in them. The samples were taken under as clean of conditions as I could manage, from the center of the stems. My idea was to rehydrate the cells without providing nutrients for the growth of other organisms. You will need to be very good at aseptic technique. Also think through ahead of time how you will avoid contamination from the outside of your sample or your tools.
It took a few weeks if I remember correctly but I eventually saw what looked like a small amount of growth. I'm talking very small, remember there was no nutrients. It was kind of a fuzz or halo. I transferred very small pieces to several agar plates, about 2-3 dozen if I remember correctly. Actually I filled several of those plates with pieces of the dry sample as well. Everything very clean and careful. Many failed I think the only ones that were at all promising were from the hydrated tissue. All were contaminated in some way, but that's to be expected.
From there you'll need to do several transfers to isolate your mycelium from contaminates. It took a long time before the strain was capable of vigorous growth (weeks) and I didn't get good rizomorphic growth for several months after it had been grown on a few different types of medium. Once it's growing though, no matter how slow or contaminated your bound to succeed in time.
I got most the information from reading the forums. I'm sure mostly from Roger Rabbit. It was fun, thankfully, as it was also slow and expensive, lol.
PS. I had another fungus that seemed to run symbiotically with it for some time and wasn't easy to differentiate except by the ...texture?... of the mycelium. It just looked like there was two types of mycelium and it was very subtle. Never figured out how that happened, but I have theories so I warn that you may see the same.
Good luck!

It's worth it to avoid spores, since you know the sample you have is something you want. And to repeat the above advice, don't sterilize!

I would still get some spores, just in case.

Thanks for your responses!
The shrooms were dried over several days at room temperature using desiccant. I'm waiting on some spores right now, but while I wait,
I think I'll give it a try. If it doesn't work there is no great loss. I was thinking of dipping a cut piece of shroom in some 3% peroxide, then (in my glove box) trying to hydrate it in sterile water- then just plop it on to an agar plate and see what happens.
Thanks NEC NOMEN! I'll consider your experience with this, I'll probably get some contaminants along the way. I'll do it with and without peroxide treatment.
