@ home laser light show
    #21081969 - 01/07/15 11:10 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

I'm going to spruce up my front room with some cool shit to look @ when I dose in the future.  I want some cool lasers that will move with any music I play.  I'm having a hard time finding good ones @ reasonable prices.  Researched all morning and found mediocre lasers or ones that just don't seem to "dance" with the music well.  I would like to add complimentary lights along with it and fog to show off the lasers.  Maybe even a planetary type laser setup that would make the cosmos dance with the music.  Any ideas shroomerites?

IMO lasers get boring rather quickly. I've been using strong LED spots which can easily color a whole room, be synchronized to music and create different atmospheres.

What's your budget?

I was thinking 2-300ish.  I'm open to ideas and changes.  Can you tell me the product so I can check it out.

Hm, I was thinking a few days ago that I'd be interested in getting an LED set up that will make a study room I have planned go from daylight colors to darker warmer colors at night according to the time of day. Do you have any insight on how to accomplish this? I'd want it to be colors rather than white, but not like intense party colors by any means. Like subtle greens/yellows during the day and oranges/light purpleish or so at night.

that's pretty damn cool!

What I really meant is that the one I have, a simple red/green laser which can make simple patterns synchronized to the music or not, gets old after a bit. It's still really fun to trip with though!

I haven't look up at products in awhile so I'm sure you could find anything I'd find online, but for about 300 USD I guess you can find a decent light/laser set up (which will probably be on the cheap side though, at least compare to the set up I've seen which cost thousands...)

PatrickKn, I know they're some gadgets which can produce pretty much any light color. I'll see if I can find some examples.

Strobe lights , LED lights and black lights wil get you better ban for buck. A lot of them have settings where they synchronize to sounds, I.e music.

Lasers are expensive for good ones, some need control units too. Also, lasers without a smoke machine is just a pattern on a wall. So you also need a smoke machine for a proper setup.

Not exactly what you want maybe but in my room I hooked up this cheap light thing from walmart... like a led projector thing that sends these multicolored fractal patterns everywhere. It's cheap and I dunno how long it will last but on its own its quite entrancing at times.

You can get programmable LED strips for $10 a meter. You can make them do all kinds of light shows in different colors, including making them respond to sound, temperature, motion. You could line you floor moulding with them and make your walls change color/brightness to the sound. Or you could make a big LED screen and do animations.
I have a light I've been working on, but I won't post it because pictures don't do it justice. It looks so much nicer in person.

Ebay, but unless you are good at programming I would look into buying a preprogrammed controller too. Something that you can just plug in and use. The LED strip I have is a WS2812b. It is very bright and can make some beautiful looking light

Just an FYI, that light show link is from a projector, not lasers. Using something similar to the XBOX kinect, they mapped out the square dimensions and depths with lasers, but the actual light show is a typical projector. Definitely awesome, and the future of light shows. Already being implemented by Amon Tobin, Shpongle, Tipper and others in live music shows.

Anyway, here's something you might consider..
http://www.amazon.com/Philips-431643-Personal-Wireless-Frustration/dp/B00BSN8DN4

-Philips HUE - $200 starter pack - comes with 3 color changing LED light bulbs, and a bridge that allows to you wireless control the lights through your phone.

You can add up to like 60 lights or something crazy, and control them all through your phone. Yellow, white, green, blue, red, whatever you want! Whatever combo!

Then it gets nifty, to where you can save presets with color combos, and also add music sensitivity which makes the music affect the lights.

Here are some videos demonstrating various things you can do:

Philips HUE with HUE DISCO app:

Philips HUE in a kitchen: (looks pretty bad ass for a kitchen at night)

Tons of videos on youtube, check em out!

I own the older models (2 actually) called Living Colours. Bought them years ago and they still work great! Philips LEDs are awesome.

i was going to make my own post to share this but here is what a laser pen pointed at a coloured see through sweet wrapper, it is so damn cool to look at like having the screensaver electric sheep in real life, wierdly when i stoped moving the laser pen the tendrils continued moving briefly, anyone care to explain this.

My personal favorite light show toys, though, have to be the Optikinetics projectors and effects. You can deck out the projectors to make awesome analog light shows! Perfect for music.

You can add kaleidoscopes, prisms, mirrors, distortion effects, and more to these projectors and get amazing results. Visuals are super vivid in person. Unfortunately out of your budget, but worth looking at just to know it's around.

http://optifanatics.com/

I'd love to have like 5,000 bucks to drop on like 4 or 5 projectors, get some oil wheels, some cassettes wheels, some effects, and start up a little light show company for special music shows and what not.

Grab a Clean CD.

Its really fun to bounce the laser light off of it :yesnod::thumbup:

And get lots of incense for smoke effects, and delicious smelly effects :vaped:
