Transporting colonized petri dishes?
    #21081437 - 01/07/15 08:40 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

So i am looking to start working with agar (any tips, suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated) and i will be moving in the next 2 months. my concern is can i successfully transport colonized agar dishes and be able to expect a reasonable survival rate? I'm talking about a multi day drive by the way. also would a master slant be better for this and if so why? i don't really understand the whole concept of a master slant yet or have any practical experience with agar.
thanks guys

:whathesaid:
I usually end up with stacks of colonized dishes sitting around the flow hood...for weeks at the time.  On top of that I mail 1 or 2 week old colonized plates 2 or 3 days across the country in a padded envelope.  As long as they don't dry out, they're perfectly fine.
