Opinions on bucket lid
    #21080965 - 01/07/15 03:17 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

For a damion5050-esk or any other bucket tek like that what is your opinion on drilling a small hole (1/4 or something) on the top of the lid. Do you think it matters, or will it help in any way?

No, it will be worse, you want to retain temperature inside the bucket for long periods of time, not to let it escape.

What do you mean by bucket tek exactly? In damions tek the bucket is just meant to be something you sterilize your medium with, putting a hole in it would do exactly what alien stated

I've seen multiple other teks advise putting a hole in the lid. So I was wondering.

I think that was a bucket fruiting chamber, damions5050 is a bulk monotub tek, unless instead of bucket you mean the tub? The bucket in the first part of his tek is only used to sterilize the medium
*edit* either way don't put a hole in the lid. I'm baked sorry

the hole in the lid is so it doesn't form a vacuum with all that hot water and tight bucket lid seal, and implode on itself/warp as it cools.
u can just leave the lid not totally latched and be fine.
if u make a hole in lid, ur supposed to stuff it with poly.

Really? I didn't figure boiling temperatures would cause plastic to melt. Even if you account for bumping

It doesn't melt it just softens it. If you flip your bucket or roll it or anything once you have hot water in it it will kinda explode. Just a small messy explosion though.
