I know these are not active, but I am still curious.

Habitat: They where under alder trees next to the road, looks like forest service chipped up some trees a while back, hence the curiosity.
Gills: Black with a touch of brown, a tad of lighter color on the edges.
Stem: About 3mm when I picked them, and they where more white. They are dried out a bit now, so they look more brown now. Hollow and fibrous. Cap: About 10mm convex, was more cinnamon colored when I picked them, but they have dried to be more yellowish brown. Smooth texture.
Spore print color: Blackish. Definitely looks black in picture, but to my eyes they look to be more grey.
Bruising: none that I could tell.

I think Panaeolus, maybe something like olivaceus or fimicola.

Hey can anyonr id these? Butte county ca. Northern california. Habitat cow pasture / old cow patty. Seen shrooms growing from it but hella little. Took them home put them in a cologne incubator. Added water coverd left alone for 4 to 5 days then bam this is what i got. To me they look like cubes.

You need to post a photo but I can tell you now they aren't cubes. You won't find cubes in that area.

Any reason you would rule out Hypholoma, Deconica, etc? I'd like to see what kind of pileipellis it has...

The cap is splitting like a Psathyrella, and the spores look darker than they usually are in Hypholoma and Deconica. The habitat description also supports Psathyrella, and these don't look like any Northern California Hypholoma or Deconica that I know of - there are only a few. Size is a bit big for Deconica, and the cap color points towards Psathyrella.
