Okay guys, so the past few days I've been researching quite heavily into mushrooms. I've decided I wanted to grow my own! I've discovered that they're very medicinal, and that this may just be the only solution to relieving my severe headaches. I'm trying to keep this grow pretty simple. I want to use spawn bag(s) and bulk substrate(s) in a plastic bin to grow. I realize that the PF Tek method may be simpler, but this just seems like my type of method. I've put together a list for what I believe to bring success into this operation. Please, feel free to suggest to add/remove/edit anything, that's what I'm looking for. I want success! I live in the deserts of Las Vegas, to give you an idea on the environment. List: 5 kilogram block of fine organic coco coir fiber ($13) (amazon.com) Espoma 1 Cubic Foot of Organic Vermiculite ($24.59) (amazon.com) Accurate Thermometer and Humidity Gauge ($8.39) (amazon.com) Rubbermaid 50 quart plastic bin ($10.49) (farmandfleet.com) Sterilized 2 pound rye berry spawn bag with self-healing injection site ($12.00)(everythingmushrooms.com) Spore Syringe ($11.95)(freespores.com)
Will that be enough coco coir + vermiculite for my 50 qt bin? More than enough? Also, I was considering organic perlite, but I'm really not too sure where in my process of mushroom growing I would add perlite, and how. And, what's a good way of keeping this setup at a good temperature without using my household heater? I was told not to use an outside heat source, so now I'm left clueless.

Look into mono tubs and skip the hygrometer, way more then enough coir but you may want more grain spawn

2 pounds of spawn should cost about 1-2$ you just have to figure out how to do a really easy cooking step yourself

I'm still in favor of the 13 dollars for 50lbs of oats. I was getting some WBS deals like that though for a while. 20lbs for about 7 dollars.
