Best kit?

What would you guys recommend for a kit? These look good:

I'd rather buy an all-in-one solution than put one together myself.

None, Kits cant be trusted. Just do it yourself.
"The MycoGarden is the world's first mushroom kit that allows you to INCUBATE, BIRTH, FRUIT, and DRY your mushrooms in a single compact and easy-to-use modular device.
This 3-IN-1 mushroom growing ecosystem is perfect for both beginners and experts in the fascinating world of mycology. This is a great system for kids to learn about the world of fungi! "
From the website listed.

This is a picture of Cubes. They are advertising this to children. Some people should be ashamed. And its 125.00. WTF?

I like the design of this one:
https://www.universityscientific.com/product.php?xProd=31
You're saying I should study the design and buy all of the component separately?

I think I have a post about how grow kits suck. This one is no different.
Couple of things. The presterlized jars, will lose the vermiculite barrier on the top during shipping. The hydroton is a shitty way to create humidity, Perilite is much cheeper and readily available.
You do NOT need an air pump, all you need is a SGFC set up. Someone will link some teks for you in a second.
This kit says failure all over it.
The question is? Do you want mushrooms to eat, or do you want to learn to grow mushrooms?
If you just want to eat some mushrooms, find a dealer or go to the supermarket.
If you want to learn to grow, read some of the amazing teks on here and welcome to the community.

You can do it yourself for a 1/3 of that price This kit companies really are trying to make a dishonest dollar, aren't they?

I actually have a lot of experience growing from many years back. Now I want to get back into it and grow gourmet stuff for eating fresh, but I want to use the PF Tek that I have experience with. This will be in my office and I want it to look cool. I think hydroton looks cooler than perlite and I love the great view you get of fruiting with that kit.

Well, most of us here only now how to make it work efficiently; not really focused on turning it into an art exhibit. No one here is going to recommend a growkit so that's something you'll have to decide on your own

OK guys, let's talk about the design of the kit:
https://www.universityscientific.com/product.php?xProd=31
I can buy the humidity dome separately:
http://mycosupply.com/humidity_dome/
What would you change in the design?

You would want to drill small holes every 2 inches in the bucket and in the dome.

Just build a SGFC, it's cheeper and you will have better results than using a grow kit.

To OP. You should look up the poor man's pod if you want to make an updated version of the mycodome. It might be fine for aesthetics but as others have told you it isn't as efficient as a sgfc. Some people have made them in the past and they will work. As for picking the design apart here goes:
The fishtank heater in the base is not necessary. Incubation is not necessary at room temperature. The airpump is known for not providing good enough air exchange. Don't use their drying method either. Desiccant is good for keeping dried mushrooms dry, not for initial drying.
Parts list. Cheap quality at a premium price. Acurite indoor outdoor thermometer maybe $5.00 2 3 gal. buckets @$6.00 each 1 humidity dome 1 strainer 1 bag hydroton, geolite, leca or what ever they are calling it these days. 1 Air pump.
That and some hose and maybe some air stones and you can build a reasonable facsimile. The poor man's pod version I have seen uses an oil drain pan. Not the best method but feel free to see that on your own. Good luck. I'd say do a mono but what do I know.

I'd just build an SGFC.

First was ripping the design. Second was listing parts. huh? Though that was rather clear. Anyways it still outlines an outdated and inefficient method.

I'm just confused to why you suggest a pmp and then explain why he shouldnt build one, and then again lists parts he should buy for his underachieving pmp..
