Winter Arkansas Mushrooms
    #21063494 - 01/03/15 08:55 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Hello everyone, I'm sure I'm not doing this right and will probably leave something out/pictures probably aren't that good of quality so please bear with me. I found both of these today in NW Arkansas. The lighter colored mushrooms were found growing out in the open grass with no trees in sight. They were growing in small clusters. The darker colored mushrooms were all growing at the base of dead and live oak trees covered in leaves. I started spore prints but had to go to work before they were finished. I was just hoping someone might could point me in a direction to start looking. Not going to eat them, just a new, curious mycology fan starting from the ground up. Thanks a lot for any info!

Nice find!

Are you by chance taking mycology class in Fayetteville?

#1 Marasmius oreades
#2 maybe another Marasmius, but I can't find a good match

I'm probably wrong on the first one too. I'm not very good at this, lol.

I disagree with Marasmius oreades for the first but I'm not sure what it is. Possibly Clitocybe.

Second appears to be an Entoloma sp.

Thanks a lot for the replies! Upon further studying (although I could be wrong) Marasmius oreades appear that the gills are not attached at all, the ones I found are similiar but the gills are partially attached to the very top of the stem.

As I predicted, dead wrong. I thought Entoloma on the second one, but I usually see some pink on the gills by that age. Again, I'm a noob:facepalm3:

I think they are both collyboid.

I think you may be right. Possibly Oak Loving Collybia and Collybia butyracea?

I believe the mushrooms on the left are Gymnopus dryophilus. I also now think the darker colored mushrooms are a collyboid of some sorts.

The darker ones look like a Rhodocollybia sp.
