The best part is that you don't burn through spore syringes. You can get hundreds of agar plates from a single spore syringe instead of a few grain jars.

Ahh, nice! I was planning to scrape some prints I collect onto agar and go from there, but getting more juice out of a syringe would be nice

Agar is totally worth it. You can get set up with everything you need to work with agar for under 50 bucks if you already have a PC. A few months ago I was a noob and totally intimidated by the idea of working with agar. All I can say is that it's cheap, easy, and totally worth it.

I've read several teks on all of them just don't know which to go with. new to all this ratio stuff, only used brf cakes in shotgun tubs before. thanks for all the suggestions.

When doing gtg do you need any special lids for the jars you are transferring to? or can you just leave them with the plain jar lids...

current lids are the basic lid with a 1/4" hole punched in the center, a tyvek envelope cut to a disk placed between the lid and the metal ring and a s.h.i.p. to top it off.

Is... the SHIP covering the GE hole? How many holes are in the lid itself, exactly?

that tek doesnt use ship's... if you covered your only hole with silicone you fuked up
I have a couple lid "teks" in my signature, you should check them out and stop using tyvek!

Disregard that, Wrong url. And the ship is on the tyvek not the actual lid where they were knocked up. No silicone between the whole in the jar and the tyvek, just ontop of the tyvek. jars seem to be doing fine maybe another day or two before they reach full colonization. Just looking for what lids that are needed for gtg. Even if my unconventional lids are incorrectly used the wbs still colonized with no contam. The teks I've read on here show the gtg pint jars but no lid prep. Only got a couple days before the jars are ready so looking for a full proof plan(suggestions)

Yea I shook them around there... Why? Looking at the jars today there's maybe 10/15% left to go
Tyvek was easy to get locally, any advice where to find filter disks locally? Why's the SFD lid necessary for gtg?

You just need a lid with a hole for GE. I make mine a little smaller than a dime. You need a filter over the hole, too. I use EZ felt but tyvek CAN work if it's all you have; you usually want to double layer it though.
If your lid has a hole for gas exchange you are good to go

say you spawn 3 to coir or horse poo and stick the last one in the fridge, will it last till first flush? N00b to the agar. will two 20qt tubs be ideal when using all 4 or should it be a single tub?
can't stop laughing at ganjfather's avi
