Another Sideways Substrate Thread - Turn that sub on it's side for fun times!

Note: When talking about this, I refer to the side of the sub that fruited during the first flush as the 'top' side (right side in the pictures) and the bottom of the substrate that DID NOT pin in the first flush (left side in pictures) as the 'bottom' side
After the first flush on one of my little, half-size-monotub clones I decided to turn the substrate onto it's side to see if it would yield more fruits on the side with more pinning space than on the side that used to be the 'top'.
Lo and behold the side that used to be the 'bottom' rocked way way more new pins and fruits (though there was more aborts than usual on the the 'bottom' side)
This tub also lacked top holes and used only sub-level holes loosely stuffed. I didn't want the sub trying to colonize the top hole polyfil so I just didn't drill any.
Cold winter months are kinda boring. So I'm doing these things. Interesting to me how the ones closer to the light opened their caps first. The sub was directly below the light, I tried to make sure both sides got it equally but the sub kinda started leaning to the 'bottom' side and so the bottom part of that side (left in the pictures) got less light at the bottom of the substrate than the top. If that makes sense. I'm going to reread this and see if I can't explain which side is which more clearly. Unless you guys get it.

No it's a clone that I believe had at least three or more sets of genetics in it since the fruit size / appearance was so inconsistent.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. But I've tried it with a few colonies and it wasn't a consistent result. (Cubes)

I wonder if turning the substrate on it's side encourages the fruit to grow a longer stem, thus making more weight per shroom?

I kind of doubt this. If the mycelium is spending more energy growing longer shrooms then I would think that may explain the higher abortion rate in the pins. It stops putting energy into some pins to 'focus' on growing fewer, longer fruits that can adequately mature. Or something along those lines.
An interesting thought though.

I don't think i could pull off something like that BL unless I really dialed in my substrate composition and fruiting conditions with the perfect isolate.
Dry weight is 51 grams. First flush was 66 so that bumps the Total yield to just over 1 oz per jar of grain. This was 4 qts spawned to half a bucket tek recipe.
