Just read your post about it being weird that I enjoy youngsta. You're right, I'm too old. Will start disliking him immediately and continue my boycott until he amends his dj pseudonym to "oldsta". Good call.

Colours said: Nice to see some Youngsta love. Kinda surprised Burke likes him, but maybe that's just because his picture makes me think he's an older guy. I don't listen to as much dubstep these days but he's a great DJ. Saw him on his first two US tours the past couple years. Didn't catch the last tour though. Anyway....
not sure how old burke is, but i'm 37 in a couple of months. i've been listening to electronic music since i was about 15 years old and grew up in my city's scene(s). i wish youngsta would come through here. it's odd that he hasn't because we've always been a big name in the game in general.

I'm 33, so not far behind you. Still, I'm waiting for DJ Oldsta so I can be down again.
Alright, I'm sure someone has posted this video here at Boomtown before, but I'm adding it again because it always mystifies me. Worth the 7 minutes, I'm pretty sure this is pieced together footage from a "rave" at some kind of anime/furry/brony convention. Whatever it is, it's the weirdest dance ever. Looks like everyone is enjoying themselves, so that's what matters, but I'm always confused and a little entranced by this one.
Dunno if any of you guys like Angel Haze, but I love her. She was responsible for one of the best album's I heard in all of 2013 (Dirty Gold) and is a ridiculous lyricist and a real fascinating person. Bitch leaked her own album when she got pissed at her label; when it finally dropped, it did incredibly poorly, despite critical acclaim. Here's a real cool remix by a talented dude I don't know much about, but the bass rattles on this one.

The previous track reminded me to share this one, made by a dude I know. Some real fun bouncy business outta Philly.

If you like squishy Tipper type stuff with some good turntablism then you might enjoy this.
For some chiller vibes, this is a great new mix from Tokimosta:

I had to look this one up. Turns out she did give him a verse to play around with in 2012. Looks like he spots collab partners real well, and she can't pick 'em for shit. I listened to the tune; it's just a standard bassnectar song with a few bars by AH sampled and tossed into the mix. I guess I should not have expected more, but when you're working with such great source material, why make a track that would have barely excited me in 2004? Posted below for reference.
Bassnectar- Freestyle ft. Angel Haze
Honestly man, I can not get into your headspace here. I will say that it's great for young people to go out and experience live music. That's real important and healthy, now more than ever, perhaps. But I can't figure out A) the cult-like following of fans this guy has or B) what makes his fans think he's so different from other big room "EDM" acts out there. I feel like if I was evil, I'd go to a Bassnectar show and ruin peoples' night by telling them that there is no Easter Bunny and that they can't really go to Hogwart's. This stuff just seems so basic and childish to me. As near as I can figure it, the fans themselves have found a way to make the parties real fun, and then they in turn convince themselves that the music is good because of positive association and general nostalgia. I know that I did this when I was a 17 year old raver in the 90s, listening to prog trance and hardcore. The parties were so much fun that the music itself seemed magic to me, but objectively, at a 15 year distance, I can tell that it was just fun parties with mostly not-so-great music. Am I close here? Honestly just trying to figure out this whole Bassnectar thing.

theres just literally nobody in this scene who approaches a set the way he does. its more of a musical journey than just party music. he wants you to feel a certain way at a certain time and hes just so good at it. hes soooo good at finding random nasty tracks youve never heard before and just fuckin blows shit up live. no 2 sets are ever the same, ever. he keeps it fresh as fuck and thats why people see him so often. i dont understand how u like starkey but hate on a lot of shit bassnectar plays, its not that diff, hes def dropped starkey tracks before too. the hipster element comes into play, for sure, whether you wanna believe it or not
part of it is the community too. i mean bassheads are fuckin legit these days. maybe a few years ago nah, but now everyones had a couple years to learn and bassheads rage proper nowadays. theres no shitty drugs in bassnectar scene, just fire. were educated people who truly care about music and were just a big family. raging out back at his biggest events is so fun cuz theres some serious fucking creatures out there and its hilarious
when it reallllly comes down to it, people love bassnectar cuz he fucking slays
