Ear Infection as An Adult?

My right ear has been killing me the past few days. It was just like a semi-sharp pain sometimes, but now it is becoming more persistent and has the added symptom of vertigo.
Strangely enough, even in my dreams last night I would experience vertigo. However, this was illustrated in the dreams by being intoxicated, but I woke up this morning and was still feeling rather dizzy and off balance.
As a child, I had tubes in both ears. Does this make a possible ear infection as an adult more likely and serious? Anyone else have experience w/ ear infection as an adult? I have oral Pennicillin VK and Amoxicillin, will either of these help? If so, which one is best?
Also, is it really safe to drive feeling off balance like this? I have a lot of errands to run today, but will find someone else to drive if needed.
Thanks in advance! I love you Shroomery!!!

I had a whole string of nasty ear infections whilst living in the tropics. Tropical ear as they call it. Really sharp stabs of pain, caused by water being trapped in the ear and a build up of wax, which is intensified by humid weather. Antibiotics cleared it up, I can't remember which ones they were. If you get it early you can use a antibiotic/steroid drop which works pretty well but once it's a bad infection you need it orally. I didn't get any dizziness though.

Okay cool, and thanks. Hopefully some more people will chime in as too. Adults usually don't get ear infections from what I understand.

Why wait for us to chime in? If I suspected an ear infection and was having vertigo I would be off to the doctor ASAP because I imagine vertigo is probably one of the most unpleasant of experiences.

The vertigo has mostly subsided. But I have taken a dose of the Amoxicillin, still have to take it one more time today though. Just sucks bc one of the side effects of antibiotics can be diarhha X.x But I think having the craps beats the hell out of ear pain and vertigo.

That is bad. You need to take a full course of antibiotics. All you did is kill the weak bacteria and left the stronger ones behind. Congrats you just bred super bugs
