Simple question.
Where did you go to school and was it hard? And what do you do now?

i slept with a young mech engineer few times. or more than a few times. He went to college at eastern (in washington state). He works at genie, a heavy machinery company in wa. probably in some managerial position now.

That was my major for a year or two. Expect to take all 3 levels of physics and calculus and a lot of classes that use calculus and physics fundamentals.
Hope you like math.

Is it something you can go to a community college for, for basics?
I would say i like math. Not so much whenever i was in high school, but i hated school and never really payed attention due to issues i won't talk about.
IF i were to go to school for it, id like to end up working with internal combustion engines. Designing and machining them.

You can't just say you like it. You gotta love it. Even if it does keep you up at night thrusting you from the back

Hope you're ready for some sleepless nights and doing math and physics until you Shit your pants.
My roommate was a mechanical engineering major for like two years before switching. You have to take the entire calculus series (1 2 and 3) a yr of physics (calculus based) and other classes like fluid dynamics and differential equations.
Not saying you can't do it but slacking off in any capacity is not an option unless you are just insanely smart and really strong in math. You said you didn't really like math in high school... Whats the highest math class you've taken?

I should have clarified lol. I Hated school in general in my high school years. That included math. Not that i hated the subjects. I really just didn't like the environment. It pushed my attention from actually wanting to learn. I was a huge sleeper and failed a lot of classes for doing so. Not that any of you will believe that, but i don't care if you do or not.
I honestly don't remember what the highest math i had taken was.

Not really. Community colleges offer a mechanical engineering technology diploma but it's not the same thing and nothing transfers. You could most likely knock out your englishes, humanities, and GE classes at a CC.

some community colleges are able to offer degree programs now, it never hurts to check and for the math/physics, if it's offered and transferable to another college then it's best to go that route

Yeah I'm hoping i can get a lot done at a community college as it's a shit ton cheaper. And then transfer to a university.
Ive went and talked to two different CCs in the past, even took some tests so they could see where i was. Was so close to actually being enrolled, but both times backed out.
Im at a point now that i cant back out and need to do something with my life. Something i actually want to do.

If it's been more than 6 months since your last HS math class then expect to place at or near the lowest level for math...You won't be jumping straight into Calculus, you'll get placed in something like Beginner's Algebra, followed by Intermediate Algebra, followed by College Algebra, followed by Trigonometry.
After you take those 4 classes consecutively you'll be ready for your first class that can be applied to your degree: Calculus I.
By this point, you will be getting very sick of math, since you will have studied it for the previous 1.5 to 2 years.
You'll be ready to blow your brains out and you will not have even scratched the [mathematical] surface.

I have my bachelor's in electrical engineering technology from a state University and now work as a quality engineer for plastic injection molded parts. I had to go through calculus 2 and took a lot of tough electrical classes. Those were the only classes I couldn't slack off in and still pass. I had to never miss a class and do homework every day. I did skip other classes and smoked weed every day after I got off.
If I went to a harder engineering school I would have had to pay three times as much, and I wouldn't have been able to smoke so much weed or slack ofd. Honestly as long as you get your bachelor's degree in something that isn't useless and you can make good money.

How long were you in school for?
I figure with a degree in mech engineering you can move pretty much move anywhere and find a job?

I got my associates degree in industrial automation for two years and transferred to a university for three more years. It was electrical engineering technology, and I don't even use any of the electrical stuff now. For the past 5 years I've done injection molding work which is in the mechanical engineering field.
I don't know, I haven't tried to move anywhere but it was really easy to find a job in my home city. I literally applied one place and got the job, but that's been for EVERY job I've ever had. I make 55k right now, and I'm happy with that. I'm not even trying to move up.

I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Delaware. Yes it was hard as fuck. 3 weeks straight of studying 10 hours a day for tests. Then get ready for the next one. Massive repetition till you can do complicated math problems in your sleep. Competition was the best that India and China, with over a billion each, could send.
I have worked for a variety of startups and major corporations. Always pays pretty well and the work is never as hard as the school. Right now I have a job that I could teach a clever high school student to do. Not had to look too hard for a job for the last 20 years. Do something remotely impressive, build some contacts at your job, then follow them to the next place.

The spoken truth. It's a bitch to get through an ME program. But, when you're done, the job market is yours. Beware, you may be working 60 hour weeks at the beginning of your career, depending on where you get a job. And yes, you must have a passion for mathematics and physics. I'm not trying to scare you off, but it definitely requires some dedication and devotion.
