hey everyone, went out wednesday after some brief afternoon showers, wasn't expecting to find a whole lot since it hasn't rained much over the past few weeks, but luckily didn't leave empty-handed. our field has been producing like crazy this summer and this was a very special hunt for me since it's the first time i've found cyanescens (or at least first time iv found them since i knew what they were!). we primarily tend to find cubes at this spot but for some reason the cyans seemed more present this time around, and in places we weren't expecting to find them:

the terrible quality on my phone kinda makes these guys look rotten/molded (thankfully they aren't), although a few of them are a tad sun baked/covered in spores. the cyans were definitely a treat to find tho, it's amazing just how dark blue/green they tend to bruise:

it was fun finding the cubes as always, although a few of them were dried/sun baked out, decided to take em anyway. also found some of the tiniest cubes i've ever seen, which was cool.

that's pretty much about it for this hunt. i also found a rather peculiar specimen, not sure exactly what it is:

all in all it was definitely worth it. this is the first summer i've actually found any mushies, and it's been a life changing experience. we used to go in our early teens and never have any luck, so it's definitely been awesome finding such a productive field. there is something about being in those fields, it's kinda been all i can think about!

My field just did not do it for me so far, so I went out looking in other fields and came across a very generous preserve My new fav spot.
Cubes, check.

Blue Meanies, check.

And the full haul yesterday

I found a huge cube. but my buddy has the pic. When I get it i'll post it. The biggest one i've ever found, hands down. Also found reishi out there.
nice find bro! quick question, were all those growing off poo?? or just in a field?? trying to get a better idea since i dont know any cow pastures i could just stroll in and start pickin without getting a blast of rock salt lol. any info would be cool, thanks!
You usually find them coming out or around the patties, but the preserve I found those in was an old 100+ year old cattle ranch, so it is basically anywhere in the tall grass on the field.
I'd suggest googling preserves or livestock grazings in bureau of land management in your area to find a field that you can freely walk through without worrying about trespassing.
If you don't have nay of those close to you then maybe just try any cow field, but you have to be careful for obvious reasons. Good luck. Hope you find a good field, buddy

thanks for the id on that! it's been a great summer so far, very humbling and spiritual being out in the fields. 95% of the mushrooms in the above pics were picked in the same spot, which had large fairy rings of cubes. never seen anything like it!

it definitely wasn't anything i'd heard of or seen before, and since it was my first big find i didn't think much of it (besides how awesome it was). we searched several surrounding fields that day and didn't find much, but this particular spot had decently sized circles of what seemed to be super rich soil, dung, and of course, clusters of cubes all around the ring. all together i'd say there were about 5 of these rings in that particular field!

That would be one hell of a sight.
I'm sure it would be possible if the conditions were absolutely perfect.
Imagine spreading spawn evenly in a two foot circle of well mixed manure/soil. When the mycelium fully colonizes the manure and reaches the edges of the circle - where there are less nutrients - it may cause fruits to emerge around the edge in a ring.
Just a speculation. Sounds awesome though.

Here is what I was talking about.

Not a single patch of woods I hunted in today wasn't littered with trash, every square inch! I'm sorry, but this part of Florida is a nasty area to reside in. I know there are good clean areas, but you'd ahve to be a movie star to afford to live there.

I've ran into many bum camps out here, but not much more than any other place (besides L.A). Just go to a nearby state/county park or conservation area.
There are a ton of great places by the way. I don't understand your view because of all the places I've lived in the state all were really pretty and normal (as normal as Florida can get), I'm not a "movie star" either. So I can't really take some of your statements seriously.

I'm sorry man,I'm used to living in Kentucky, where the woods and forests are as pristine as the day God made them. And you don't have to go to a protected park to see the outdoors in all it's beauty, because it's all around you. I also lived in the panhandle of Florida for over 10 years, and it was beautiful too.
I guess I was wrong to say Florida is a nasty state to reside in because I haven't been through the whole state, and I know that statement isn't true, sorry.
However,my immediate area is filthy, and every patch of woods I've hunted in looks exactly like the pics I posted, and even the water, and swamps are full of garbage.
You're right,I just need to get used to this, and when I want to see beauty,go to a park or conservation area
I also hope I didn't offend you in any way Florida still has some beautiful natural areas left, but you gotta admit they are getting to be few and far between because of all the damn people here!

Here's a funny one: I'm about 95% sure that this patch of woods that you took pictures of is where my mother used to live a few years ago.
Is there a 7/11 right nearby?
