Pay off your mortgage.

Yesterday 10/15 17 even was tested, and the price spiked to almost 17.80 very quickly before falling back.  Thus 17 is near term support, and 17.80 resistance.

The dollar index has been having a tough time getting above 86 but if it does and gets on a roll we could see silver back to 15 area.  Big time support is 14.65 where I would expect a big time fast V bottom.

arago, pay off your mortgage.

Even if the mortgage is a small amount, you will no longer be paying any interest on a property that you will now fully own.

Always get out of debt first.

It would appear that the bottom at least in the intermediate time frame was made at 14.09 overnight in quite a V bottom.  Silver coin demand has been very high, and at some point the control and shorting of the paper SLV and futures short selling can only go so far in driving the silver price lower.  The other thing is that the gold silver ratio was reaching ridiculous levels.

I am more bullish on silver at these prices relative to gold, but really both metals look heavy and likely to head lower.  The USD has been on a tear, and likely to break out to new highs given the weakness in oil and Europe.

What's everyone's game plan?

I've stopped buying metals at this juncture and everything's locked away. I imagine this is going to be a longhaul.

I'll buy back in if it drops below ten and double down my holdings at 5-7 dollars (hope it doesnt drop that low) and forget about metals for ten or twenty years. At this point it truly does look like something my wife can use when I'm dead and gone. I'll likely be inheriting gold, silver and US coins in the next 10-15 years when family members pass but I'm certainly not buying anymore for a long time.

Of course, it could drop back to 10 if the dollar really strengthens, but I don't see that happening.  If you look at how fast it dropped to 14.09 overnight, then bounced, it was a really steep V bottom that is unlikely to be tested IMO based on technicals.

Fundamentally, seems stackers at least are buying silver as the mints can barely keep up with demand.

As for a strategy, it depends on where each individual and what their "needs" are.  Holding at least some metal makes sense if you have emergency needs in cash for 3-6 months, and your debts are paid off.  To buy metals on a credit card and pay interest, now how stupid would that be for example.

Don't see the dollar strengthening?

EU's on the verge of announcing QE, Japan already did earlier in December, China's PMI is sub-50, Mexico is the 6th largest oil producer in the world - with oil dropping ~50% as of late, Russia will soon be in recession and their Rouble is hurting, Venezuela's already in recession and has official inflation of ~65%, the list goes on.  The US is a beacon of light in an otherwise pretty grim world.

I see the dollar continuing its rise, and PMs consequently continuing their drop.  Although this time around you'll actually see me start picking up some of the shiny stuff as it gets a bit further down

You read that correctly!  memes!  buying silver (maybe gold?)!

Well I do see the dollar rising, but the question is, does the inverse relationship hold true forever even if the dollar is being devalued?  A stronger dollar relative to other currencies in no way means there isn't a fiscal deficit each and every year.  This even with QE ending.

I think you are right the dollar is the best of the currencies, all of which are devaluing.

If you hope to buy silver at 10, it may happen, but only if the DXI gets up over 100.  It's at 90 and change now.

has the inverse relationship held true thus far?  with fiat currencies being devalued continuously all this time?

The strong inverse relationship of the past few months has been weakening of late.  The dollar went over 90 as silver rebounded from 14-16.

It depends on the "reason" the dollar is strong.  If it is going up merely because the other currencies ease then silver may not go down as a result.

My metals dealer has 5 and 10 ounce bars for $1 over spot per ounce.

Now that I'm out of debt it's really hard to not snag some giant slabs of it. I know it's no screaming deal but a penny saved is a penny earned.

I think silvers going to be long haul, which is my end game anyway, so that works out I guess. With the oil sands being shut down and oil prices so cheap, commodities obviously suck, however the wildcard I can see is this "artificial" strong dollar.

Getting rid of some numismatic value to trade into silver seems like a bad idea at this juncture. I see those as more secure as they hold value in two forms, but numismatic value is also relatively impacted by the price of metals. I'm getting a hankering for some nice looking Morgans again...

I bet the metals game is a lot different if you don't care much for US coins and collecting.

totally.  i never considered ever buying 1oz silver coins for $X.XX over spot.  if i ever picked up some of the devil's metal i was going go grab 10 or 100oz bars.

I really appreciate the art that used to be in US coins up until Roosevelts, Franklins, wheat cents, and marginally enjoy peace dollar artwork.

Interesting how the dollar broke out to new highs last week, and silver didn't go down, in fact was up on the week.  This is the point I was making, that the inverse relationship will not always "work".

The "risk off" trade could include the dollar, and silver and gold both moving up on some days, even weeks.

Think about it.

i'm not saying it's a 1:1 inverse relationship, every day forever.

of course there will be periods where its not golden
