Ethernet
    #2101479 - 11/13/03 11:44 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

What up all. My dad gave me his computer the other day. I took the hard drive out of it and put it in my computer, I also put his CD-RW drive, and his RAM in my computer. It's bad ass, I have two hard drives now and I over doubled my RAM. He has an Ethernet card in there, and I am thinking about putting that in my computer too, but I don't really know what ethernet is. I hear people talking about it all the time. But what is it? Should I put this card in my computer?

You don't need it unless you have more than one computer that you need to network. It allows you to hook multiple computers together, or hook a cable modem to your computer.

Ethernet is a physical layer technology that allows multiple computers to communicate with each other. If you have broadband instead of dialup, you will most likely use ethernet to connect your computer to your broadband gateway (cable modem, dsl modem, etc).

I see. Well what else could I take out of the computer my dad gave me to put in my computer? He has a DVD player in it, but I don't see why you would need a DVD-Rom drive on your computer.
