Logical's Magic Wood Dust Tech for Wood-Loving Species
    #21036123 - 12/28/14 04:09 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

One bag of BBQ Alder chips
One bag of BBQ Hickory chips
A box of ziplock bags
Gallon of filtered water
your wood-lover spores printed on the backs of blank CDs

Steps:

Put one part alder/one part hickory chips into a ziplock baggie. Mix well. Add water to bag. Mix well.

Now wash/scrap/rub spores onto the mixed wet wood dust in the bag. Mix well.

Take your bag to a wet but semi protected area in the forest near your wood-lover species.

Put on ground, pack a  little, then cover with nearby leafs and brush.

Wait till early fall then case with some dry sticks or similar non-nutritional items.

Wait for pinng.

Harvest in Fall next year.

Repeat. :awethumb:

Good question. I would imagine it would be highly dependent upon the location unless you plan to water it. If you were to do this I'd pick 3 or so places assuming some will fail, or better yet put spawn instead of spores.

What other kinds of chips are there? All I know of is animal litter, but most of those I believe are not hardwoods and thus not ideal for mushroom growing. I have some aspen around for instance, but I read not to use that.

Anything but cedar, hardwoods like alder are used because they are considered a waiste type of wood but even softwoods like fir work great ....shit even pine if it is aged enough

Maybe some chips like for your yard? The stuff you find in landscaped areas?

Exactly. They are for BBQing. They are about $5 for a small 2 qt bag.
