I want to dry them out discreetly. Since there's only 2, I taped them to the 60watt bulb in my lizard tank. Will that work OK?

Need a spore print. And more information about the stem, cross section shape, did it have a veil, any scales or fibers ect. Look at section 3 and 4 by Toxicman in this post http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...t=1#Post1651153 see if there is anything else you notice about the mushroom.

Panaeolus foenisecii
They are growing everywhere in lawns right now in the SF bay area.
Do a search for them on google's images.

Definitely Panaeolus foenisecii. You're a genius! Thanks a lot, both of you.
"Edibility: Doubtful; too small and unsubstantial to be of culinary value; said to contain insignificant amounts of the hallucinogenic compounds psilocin and psilocybin."
Insignificant meaning what, 50 shrooms for a level 1 trip?
I might save these to see if I collect any more this season.
Thanks again!
(By the way, the 60watt bulb dried them cracker-crispy. Whoo hoo!)

I wouldn't waste my time eating them.
Some sources say that they contain trace amounts of psilocin/psilocybin, but I've heard differently from many people.
I dout they have anything of use in them, and you'll probably end up just getting the squirts.

Yeah, after reading a little bit about them on the Shroomery site, I've decided not to eat them. Thanks for your advice.

Are Panaeolus foenisecii considered to have "attached gills?" I don't really understand the term.

It means if the gills are attached to the stem.
Arora states: "Gills: Adnate to adnexed or seceding, fairly close, brown becoming deep brown..."
Adnate means broadly attached, and adnexed means narrowly attached. So they are attached, depending on the specimen and individual gill.
If you keep your eyes open, you will find tons of Panaeolus foenescii through the fall and winter in all sorts of lawns, especially in the SF bay area, among other areas as well. They are very common. Whats interesting is that they have very different apperances depending on where they are. They look completly different dry as well.

Thanks for the clarification. You're right - they look completely different after I dried them. I've got to figure out a way to take some pictures of my future finds and post them here!
Two questions: 1. Would Pan Subbs maybe have a greater chance of appearing in the same lawns as these foenescii? 2. Pan-ay-ol-uss fen-esk-ee?

You'll want to look for P. subbalteatus in a different habitat. The best place to find them would be on horse stable shavings/manure. Usually a horse stable/riding area will clean out the stables and place them in a compost heap. This heap is ideal for the growth of P. subbalteatus.
Thats the way I pronounce the genus/species, but, it could be said differently. To tell you the truth, I have never heard a mycologist say the word Panaeolus, so I say it the way you said above.
Ive posted this picture a million times, but, its my favorite. These were growing on a horse manure/woodshaving/straw/grass heap the size of my house.

HO-ly shit. I never knew horse shit could look so beautiful =)
I didn't know P. Subbs can be wavy like cyans...that's interesting.
Hopefully, I'll be able to go to a community garden-type place this weekend and see if they have any woodchip piles. It rained a bit today, so I'll post if I find any cyans or anything

I found some more p. foenisecii today, along with a yellowish-brown mushroom of similar size growing in grass. The stem was this same yellow-brown color, and the spore print I'm taking seems to be light brown. Any guesses?
(It rained this morning, and I found it in the afternoon.)
