Any difference between what?
-------------------- I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube." No, this does not look right...

Spawning cheese grated cakes to cvg, and spawning colonized WBS to cvg. I am doing a side by side.

I'll be interested to know the results. I was gonna test the same. Monoculuture or clone I assume?

No unfortunately it is MS so it is not scientific. In the near future I will be doing a PE or MAZ monoculture in this fashion. This is just a trial run.

I should be testing cakes vs cakes in coir vs cased cakes soon for the PF baggy tek I'm working on.
Another thing that would be interesting to see is how different spawn ratios effect the yield. Is spawning cakes to coir really providing nutrients or just more available water, which will only be useful up to a point. I suspect the latter, but enough TC's are advising it that it makes me think twice.

AFOAF gave me mono

I'm wondering if I just ran out of water. I sort of thought the spawn was shit when I tried it, so 2 volemtric quarts were spawned to around 3-3.5qts cvg. I could easily see that pinset with no aborts flushing out the entire nutritional capacity of the sub. Could be genetics though. Definitely dunking it after harvest.
I'm uncertain if I have a monoculture since all my culturing at that time was done on grain petris.
I'd let a lot of those mature still. If you can pull the big ones without wrecking the sub it should give more water and nutrition to the little ones. If not you can cut the caps off so they don't make a mess.
Either way nice job!

Veil pops on almost every single cap. Dunno if it was genetics, water, or some other factor.
578g wet First Flush
~3-3.33 qt's cvg with 2 quarts (4 jars of 2 cups each) accidentally burst rice spawn. I thought the spawn was iffy due to some weird looing grains on the bottom that were probably just burst rice grains pressed against the jar.
The substrate doesn't feel especially dry.
They are however, extremely colourful, so I have some high hopes.
I'll test this culture again, but ultimately I want something that isn't such a pain in the ass to harvest, and yields better.
Edit: Oh yeah, the lighting was 4500K. I have no idea if that could cause tiny mushrooms like this. My experience says no.

I put a couple of exhaust fans in my closet and plan to consolidate and case my next four tubs. I have some new shelving arriving today and will post a pic of my grow area once I get it all set up. The current genetics I'm playing with produced a great pinset but a lot of aborts.
Anyway I think your culture is solid. Maybe put it to agar and make sure it's not carrying any bacteria with it.
A far as harvest have you read this tek?
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21071408/page/-1/fpart/1/vc/1
I don't go all out on keeping things clean as I tend to dump my tubs after the 2nd or 3rd flush; but ham's harvest method seems a lot easier on my substrate than 'twist and pull'.
For large clusters I use a paring knife

I'm not fan of cutting at all, but these fruits are so densely packed I'd spend several hours picking casing off the bottom.
Second identical tub yielded 694g with more stem left on the block. Again, almost no aborts. Just tons of little guys. Honestly, now that I have the mushrooms off without having them covered in peat, I'm considering just slicing the top of the sub off and recasing it. It's literally a solid block of stems with 0 space between. They were rooted hard in the casing too.
This particular culture I have no duplicates of. I saved the early pinning giants to clone.
This culture came from a trichy grain container that I refilled with grain before I knew it was trichy. Growing from a single point, this culture outpaced the trich and took over about 95% of the container. These tubs were a cleaned up clone of the grain.
What I have left over now is a clone of the massive fruit that came off that contaminated grain, after I accidentally left it infront of a fan for 8 hours. Dunno if it's exactly the same or not.
So yeah, basically the result of fucking up the maximum possible amount and seeing what was left alive.

Ohh.. so soon i'll have my own mini mono.. I havent done shrooms in over five years.. It will be so nice to see through my cubes.

Unfortunately the mono with grated cakes got trich due to being in a not yet cleaned environment, and me being impatient wanting to look at it. However the tub spawned with 2 Qt of WBS spawn is chugging along quite nicely! It is on day 9 of consolidation, and is showing crazy rhizomorphic growth for a tub, pics later.

more than likely, the cakes were contaminated, rather than it being an environmental issue... and peaking generally isn't advised but it really isn't that much of a vector for contamination.
like I said, probably the cakes you started with more than anything.

Yeah I've moved on from cakes for good, that was a last ditch effort to get some mileage out of the cakes that I already had going. I have 4 more Qt jars of nearly colonized KSSS, and 6 more of PE colonized from agar wedges. No signs of contams in either, so I'm sold.
