Asking a quick question for my underage buddy

He's wondering if he get's pulled over, or caught with lots of drugs at age 17, will he be tried as an adult?? (he is not emancipated)
What crosses the line to make him be charged as an adult? let's say he gets pulled over with a pound of pot, let's say he gets pulled over with 6 pounds of pot, let's say he get's pulled over with 15 pounds of pot, let's say he get's pulled over with 10,000 bars, or 2,000 hits of lsd. Let's say he get's caught getting those 10,000 bars from somebodie's address, after being mailed in fresh, and the feds are on him?
What do you all think? How bad of a charge does this guy have to get, to get tried as an adult? He's only like 3 months from being 18.

Well to start with, if he's 17 he shouldn't be doing drugs. ANYWAY lol, yeah he most likely would be tried as an adult especially since he is only 3 months shy of turning 18. Also, by the time the lab has process the found drugs, lawyers have gotten involved, and court rolls around, three months will probably have passed and at the time of court he will be 18. In summary, I am 99.9% confident he will be charged as an adult it caught. The chance gets higher as the charges get more severe. Drug trafficking a large amount=severe charge. You should advise your friend to start acting as an adult and that he can not hide behind the "I'm just a kid" thing anymore. If caught, expect big boy charges and BIG boys jail

I can't say whether this is true or not... but if it is, I would find it incredibly fucked up. Here is why:
If I, as a dude in my 30s, were to get caught fucking a 17 year old girl, in most places I'd probably get charged with statutory RAPE, and I would be on a sex offender list as a "child" "molester," for the rest of my life.
"But... she was a few months away from being 18!"
"Yeah, well close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, you pedo."
(Unless it's in the court's favor, and then "close" is "close enough.")

Well, my buddy would really like to know if it's true, and where the line gets crossed. Like some of that stuff was overboard, he probably never has over a pound of bud, but he does mess with large quantities of other drugs. I think it's bs too, that he would be 17 at the time of a non-violent offense, but be tried as an adult. I mean, a pound of bud is not a trafficking charge. I believe you have to have 9 pounds or cross borders.
If you want a little background on this guy, he was selling ME my personal dank buds, at age 12! He also started smoking weed before then, and shot guns for fun on private property, with real gang members (that are his friends), around age 12 or 13. He would tell me how he used to steal his parents alcohol and cigs at age 6. He's also been using psychedelics since like age 14 or so I'd say. So telling this guy to not touch or do drugs, is just a failure in itself. He's just a rotten kid, but he's a cool little dude, I like him. He does have an extensive juvenile rap sheet, but he's never been caught with a gun, or any drugs over a possession charge. He does have vandalism, shoplifting, paraphenelia and possession charges. Some of this stuff was from around age 10 though.

Well yall can argue it all you want but they try minors as adults all time, mostly for serious offenses such as rape or murder and I'm sure there is an age were they can't be tried as an adult but 3 months from 18 is surely close enough imo. I will wait for someone more knowledgeable to respond, or even better post this question in the "ask a lawyer" thread

They will definitely try him as an adult.. I know 16 and 17 year olds that are being tried as adults for vandalism/burglary.

With that much shit, he'd almost certainly be tried as an adult. Every state has different guidelines for waiving juveniles up to adult court, but the seriousness of the crime is always a major factor. You're talking about serious felonies, so he's going to be waived up....particularly if he's only a few months from being 18.

That's a little off topic, but an extremely fine point you just made
I think it's probably true that he would get tried as an adult. While in the case I just pointed out it isn't fair by any means because no doubt there is this kind of two faced BS, but in reality stupid or not, he'd probably be tried as an adult
