Neophyte here
    #2102408 - 11/13/03 04:05 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hello all. As this is my inaugurating post, I would like to thank the informed and helpful folks here who offer their experiences to others. Perhaps my combing through this site will propitiate a copious harvest!!

I have read the FAQ, but have still have queries that I think it did not cover. Please forgive my remissness if I have overlooked some aspects of my inquest.

First off, I live in the desert of Arizona and, of course, aridity may be an impediment. There was one example on this site of a girl who lauds the perlite technique as the most efficacious--and she also lives in Arizona, although I wonder if she lives in the areas that can sponge more moisture. Has anyone surmounted a humidity problem in the <40% humidity range? Is the perlite technique tenable?

Secondly, will having the terrarium behind a cracked closet door to allow light flow suffice?

Finally, I procured spores from PF about 3 years ago, which have been kept at about room temp. Are they still viable?

Much thanks in advance...

1) Yes perlite will work
2) No get a fish tank bubbler, the tank must be sealed inorder to keep in humidity
3) Almost definetely not, spore syringe or print?

Thanks for the response, Paco. For #3, syringe.

Bout the syringe...i had one that was stored for an ungodly long period of time...more than 3 years, maybe 4. It germinated. Worth a try.

1. it would be a good idea to stick with the pf or mmgg tek for now.

2. that should work, but keep in mind that all the pins will grow
towards the light. keep the terrarium at an angle where most of the
light will come from above.

3. i've had some spores much older than that germinated with no
problem, but every once in a while some that are younger than
that don't germinate. give it a try.
