How do you prepare Blue Lotus for oral use?
    #2101204 - 11/13/03 10:36 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I ordered 2oz of blue lotus flowers and will be getting it next week. Can someone tell me how to prepare this for oral use? I am not a smoker so don't bother telling me to smoke it. I've read from erowid saying to first boil water for 10 minutes then steep the flower in the boiling water for 5 minutes (like a tea). Some other say say to just dip the flower in wine and ingest the whole thing. How about if I use it sublingually; by just taking several grams of the flower and leaving it in my mouth for half hour, then spit it out (kind of like salvia leaves).

Go with the wine route. Just soak the flowers for a week or so. That's how the Egyptians did it. I think the effect is do to synergy between the lotuses and the alcohol.

id say drink tea. then wait like 30 min to see effects then drink lotus wine. either way wil work im sure but alcohol is suposed to make it a much more enjoyable time. increasing its opaite type effects.

I'll try out both ideas and find out which one is the best.
The man, how long should I steep the flower in the boiling water? 5 minutes, half hour?

With the remaining flower should I chew and eat it or leave it in my mouth sublingually then spit it out.

Blue Lotus tea [Re: MrKite78]
    #2111240 - 11/16/03 10:45 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

The blue lotus came in the mail inside a zip lock bag that was shredded into tiny bits. I cut open a tea bag, removed the contents, and added a teaspoon of blue lotus inside (it was about 3/4 filled up). I then stapled it so none of it could leave.

I poured a cup of water in a bowl to boil for 10 minutes. Then I poured the hot water inside the cup with the blue lotus tea bag. It turned into a greenish/yellow color, almost like urine. I let the blue lotus tea bag steep in the hot water for about 5-10 minutes. I then proceeded to drink the tea for 10 minutes; worst tea I ever drank in my life.

12:00am finished drinking the tea

12:00-12:20 I felt very warm so I removed my shirt and pants

12:20 to 12:40 Felt a slight head rush (unpleasant), and gradually I got a migraine headache.

After 40 minutes of nothing but a headache, I drank a cup of red wine to see if I could get any effects from the lotus.

12:40-1am Nothing happened from drinking the wine.

1am-1:10 I opened up the tea bag and removed the blue lotus. I then started mixing it with some raw honey, then proceeded to ingest it.

1:10-1:40 Nothing to make note of, except I got a stronger headache, heavier head feeling, and became very drowsy. After that I went to sleep like a baby, and woke up the next morning around 10am feeling like a normal day as if I've never taken a drug. No side effect whatsoever.

In conclusion: It didn't turn out to be as good as I hoped. Although this is listed as being a psychoactive drug, I noticed no mood changes. No visuals or hallucinations, like others have reported. Only thing I got out of it was feeling drowsy and a headache. In my opinion, this is a waste of money, but I'm going to give another try.

Note: Next time I'm going to experiment by putting several grams of blue lotus inside a glass of wine for a week then drink. I'll let you know of the result next week. Any comments or suggestion are welcome.

I measured out a teaspoon of lotus, don't know how many grams that is. I'll be getting my gram scale in a couple days.

Wanted to add my 2-cents about this substance...

I ordered 2 gs of 15:1 extract and dissolved one of these grams in a bottle of red wine as best as it would dissolve...

Before trying the wine i tried several experiments with smoking the
extract, making teas with approx 5g plant material equiv., and soaking about the same amount in a glass of port.
All these methods produced some opiate like effects, similar to t3s. None of them were very strong, not even in the same league as weed except for the amount of sedation they produced (I fell asleep).

Then last night i tried the wine...a glass from the top and a few sips from the bottom of the bottle was enough to produce STRONG opiated effects such as numbness, feeling spaced out and euphoric, inability to worry about anything etc.

in summary...with lots of lotus, and alcohol combined, this plant is much stronger than it might first appear.
