Sounds great.
But realistically I'm a university student living in a city. There are no logs for me to split.
Many are in similar boats.

Lucky for me I'm in the trades/crafts. A lifetime of hardwork is all you really need to be healthy  Working out to look good is just...meh. Whatever. Always feels good to be in shape of course though.

Looking better is just a nice byproduct of working out.  For a lot of people, there just isn't enough time to "get fit" through living life.  I wake up in the morning, throw on a suit, sit in a chair and/or walk around an office building all day, then come home and am fucking beat.  if i can drag myself to spend 30-60min exerting myself in a workout - its been a good day.  then i collapse into a chair and get on the shroomery.

I know that working out = euphoria happiness and health and that not working out equals depression and dysphoria.

So I crave a workout the same way a drug user craves a drug. For me working out is a great pleasure. I love it. I enjoy it. I know I will feel much better if I do it then if I dont do it. My brain craves it, my body craves it.

If you havent worked out you need to really train yourself to do so, but once you have trained yourself to do so its impossible not to, you dont need to force it anymore, you crave it like a hot meal.

That's interesting, so you feel you need it? and there's a certain craving for it? I feel like I want it myself personally and it makes me feel alive, when I do it anyways.

I guess I'll have to work very hard for it, I find that I need to push really hard the first 2 week, for anything. Ok, now I'll definitely have to start.

I get that, I knew a lot of truck drivers who felt like that. I think people just have to try to incorporate it into a functional part of their lives like biking to work or whatever instead of setting aside time - maybe that would work a bit better and make it something people could do more consistently than making a whole separate errand for it.

I kinda think working out for the feel goods and whatnot takes a back seat to doing something really fun that also happens to be some form of exercise - skating, biking, skiing, your martial arts, whatever. I've known guys who were just focusing on glamor muscles and whatnot and numbers and as I predicted, it gets boring to even the most shallow man willing to slave away for etched muscles. I'd rather have a ton of fun zipping along on my bike seeing beautiful scenery and be a little doughboy than some ripped gymrat.

Not knocking you here moonshoe, just my .02.

I got the craving too and if life gets in the way you have to work around it. I travel a lot and sometimes the hotel gym is first class but sometimes it's nonexistent. I got a few backups, sprints in the parking lot, body weight like chair dips and push-ups.  28 days in India all I had was the lounge but I was clever enough to pack a soft suitcase over my shoulders and do jump squats on leg day. Worst is when I get sick and have to take a week or 2 off. Lose 5 pounds that takes 4 months to gain back.

However you work out the important thing is that you do workout hard, and regularly for your health and fitness. ideally you find a great workout that you also really enjoy like Judo, wrestling, kickboxing  etc. The goal is to a live a very physical life, so you can run on foot from point A to point B, jump over a fence, climb a ladder, drop and roll down to a lower level, and then fight in hand to hand combat with someone if you need to, etc.

To be able to run, dodge, jump, climb and fight- to celebrate our miraculous bodies by caring for them, improving them and pushing them to their limits. The only thing better then working out is working out outdoors in nature,

Lol at some of the posts in this thread. If you're a dude and you don't lift, you are missing out, no joke. It's not just muscles or the endorphin hit. Those are great too but it has a very large positive net effect that spans farther than that which you won't get from walking to the grocery store. Do it for a while and start to see the gains, you will know what I mean lol

Men with manly jobs don't have to go to the gym and put up with narcissistic nitwits and foot fungus.

Ok so you say it's not about the muscles but then say lift and wait til you see the gains, and I'm positive the only gains you're referring to would be muscle growth. Sooooo... care to clarify or are you essentially saying

"Nah bro, it ain't just about big arms...but you know, give it a shot and lift for a bit then you'll get big arms"

:waitwhat:

I have done this for work...and yes their are.

I have also piled lumber off greenchains a good portion of my younger life.  At some of the shittier mills...it can be devastatingly fast paced and physical job(makes framers look like walmart greeters)....yet even in these environments I have worked with overweight and sickly looking people from time to time.  Muscles adapt.  Muscle memory.

To this day...I still do physical work but there is definitely something to be said about working out.

I for one have become a big fan of crossfit.  It is intense and fun at the same time

I can't do it over Christmas. I'm just too hammered and half starved. I had to give myself a week off.

I was thinking the discipline, the hormonal balance/enhancement, the working off bad or nervous energy, the regular endorphin hits, the raise in baseline mood/happiness, a better functioning body at a cellular level, the sharper cognition, the big arms (vanity, I know). All of these things can compound and create different positive effects. I think it's worth it. Oh yeah if you lift like a maniac, you can pretty much eat whatever you want within reason and it will mostly to muscle. That can be fun lol. For example, I have been eating 18-30 eggs a day and my eyes are starting to yellow. I am going to go see a doctor

In our day, when men are obsessing about finding themselves, their holy grail of a woman, and their “passion,” the Greatest Generation’s uncomplicated approach to life is refreshing. They didn’t go on a diet, they simply ate whole food; they didn’t exercise, they worked around the house; they didn’t obsess about their relationships, they just found a gal they loved and married her. They always looked sharp, but never fussed with fashion trends. They didn’t mull over which appliance better suited their personality and image, they just bought the machine that worked the best. They didn’t think about how to get things done, they just got em’ done. When Joe Foss, a celebrated and daring WWII pilot and then governor of South Dakota was asked if he missed his younger days, he said, “Oh no. I’m not a guy who missed anything from anywhere. I’ve always been a guy who just gets up and goes.” Instead of spending you time navel gazing your life away, just get up and go!
