One of my plants has a brown area on the stem. Its not just at the ridge, its spreading to the rest of the stem. It was a long segment of stem that I used as a cutting. I mean it had no leaves on it. The section of new growth which is about an inch or so long looks very healthy its just a segment of the stem that its growing off of. Any ways if you can give me some ideas on what might be causing this and how to deal with it I would be ecstatic.

pic would be really nice. but my guess is, if its the part of the stem you cut with nothing below it until the next node its normal. I've seen this where I've taken cuttings before, it'll dry out , kinda woody looking, eventually die off. let it be.

btw, alot of plants will do this, trees and such too.

IS the browing squishy, mushy thats bads if still hard Or ferm, slighy flexable? I had plants that had 1-2 inchs of stem neer the base of the stem look brownish but healthy. It looks like the brown is inside of the stem and leaching out. Well all my plant that had this survived and thrived.
Once i made a cutting that had this brown in it the cutting did fine the mother plant over the perior of 2 weeks turned green again. The open wound was scraped with a clean knife just to see if is was mushy.

BUt this could have nothing to do with your plant. Hope it helps

The top node has the new growth growing off of it. It's not just the useless chunk of the plant trying to die off. The browning area is hard not mushy.

good dont worry it will go away but i not sure what causing it. IF new growth is comming out of it, that good.

If it was useless i dont think the plant would (drop) it off.

The browning started after the new growth started. It still looks ok but the browning hasn't stopped.
