How can I heat my terrariam?
    #2101760 - 11/13/03 02:51 PM (13 years, 26 days ago)

I have a styrofoam box that I built to hold my cakes. I'm using perlite for humidification. Whats an affordable and easy to heat my terrariam, and is a drip shield needed?
Thanks

check your temp with just the perlite in it...what is the temp? then decide how much you want to heat it...i use a styrofoam terrarium too...ive got a light that i put right on the lid, it raised the temp about 8 degrees inside the terrarium...so i back it off a few inches..now i got my temp around 72 degrees...

If you can get it - a bigger rubbermaid container with an aquarium heater in it works nicely and provides a nice even heat.

When I did my one perlite grow I had a simple thin plexiglass drip shield that seemed to work pretty well in preventing my cakes from getting soaked.

I am having the same problem, I cant get my terrarium out of the 62s. Ive tried heat pads but they lower my humidity too much and fog up the terrarium. I dont know what to do. can you explain the aquarium heater method? thanks

If you want to do it it'll cost you about $25 bucks.

You get 2 rubbermaid containers of the same size. You take one and fill it up about 1/4 of the way with warm water (that way you can start using it sooner)

You then put your aquarium heater into it along with something to keep the top rubbermaid off of it - I just used some coffee mugs - one in each corner.

Then you just place the other rubbermaid in the first. Wa la.

You can read more about these beauties at:

instead of mugs you can use zip ties and zip to approximately 2 inches (or more) above the heater
