Actually I have all holes stuffed the same: loosish, because Im not running a fan in the room constantly ala Frank's modus operandi, and I want that airflow, particularly through the bottom holes close to the surface. Like you say I want to promote evaporation, and I think to do that I need to ensure good airflow right, particularly close to the substrate surface?

Or would you say cronicr that by having the bottom holes only loosly stuffed I am maybe causing humidity near the surface to be reduced?

You want to stuff the bottom so they're like balls and stuff the top so it's loose. If the picture you sent has your current poly set up I would put more on the upper right side if you think your sub is drying out. That's probably why.

Do you have a fan running?

Update. This is about 15 days after initiating fruiting.

The first few pins developed into fruit like these: basically reached this size and stopped growing, some bluing on the stems.. not great

Pins that came on later are looking better, maybe due to additional mistings and / or fannings? Im not sure.

I would guess it had something to do with you taking the polyfill out, maybe the drop in humidity stunted their growth. If it's not that then it's simple genetics, some strains are smaller than others.

I think you're right. For a time I was concerned about trying to get enough airflow into the chamber. I thought that the moisture on the surface of the substrate indicated there wasn't enough movement of air.

So I reduced the amount of poly, then removed it altogether (only for half a day), and started fanning periodically. I think that increased airflow reduced humidity too much. I think the bluing on the stems of some of the first developing fruits shows they became too dry.

The current arrangement seems to be working:
-poly stuffed tight in bottom holes
-poly looser in top holes
-periodic fanning (3-4 times a day)
-periodic misting (3-4 times a day)

Ive gotten good results from this strain previously (Mazatapec). I used the original spore print to do some MS grows in trays in a SGFC and they were great. High yielding, fast growing and good sized fruit.
This mono is grown from spores collected from those trays, ie one generation removed from the original print, still MS, not cloned. So yeah I know there can still be variation..

But I think my problems with this grow have been more to do with me fucking up the conditions rather than the genetics, although I could be wrong.

Update. This is about 18 days after initiating fruiting.

Ive cut right back on the fanning. Last two days I just fanned once a day. But ive been misting 2-3 times a day.

Your substrate was too wet, it could have done with looser polly in the top holes and maybe more ambient airflow in the growroom; for evaporation to take place.

Other than that, looks like you pulled off a nice end result, OP.  My first grow was too wet as well, the fruits were still nice and it was a good learning experience.

Yes it seemed to take a while for the fruit to develop but they've eventually come on. I think I definitely set things back by allowing to much airflow early on, causing humidity to drop too low.
But they have come good with lots of misting.

Not sure if you read the whole thread thru. Actually early on I thought the same as you, that things were too wet so I went overboard trying to correct that by increasing airflow into the chamber. The result was that yes, much of the moisture on the sub surface evapped away, but the humidity dropped and actually caused pins and small fruits to become too dry.. (could see bluing on the stems and some of fruit were stunted and just stopped growing).

So I swung it around, reduced FAE to a minimum (poly stuffed tightly in the bottom holes and about half as much in top holes) and started misting the crap out of it. As soon as I switched to that arrangement it started looking a lot healthier. Pins started growing out quicker and turned into the fruit you can see in these pics.

So... all that misting means that there is water pooling on the substrate surface (fanning + FAE with my current arrangement of poly densities doesn't seem to produce enough airflow to cause that amount of moisture to evap away)... So yeah, its certainly wet but it seems like that amount of moisture is necessary to create the humid environment the fruit need to develop properly???

On my next grow which Im just about to start today, Ill be ensuring high humidity during fruiting. I might fan a little bit, but Im not going to care about any moisture pooling on the sub surface. I dont think it's a negative anymore. I think its just part of how a monotub works?

Growth can be stunted by too much moisture as well, you can tell by a lot of the pictures you uploaded that the tub was way too wet; by the looks of the evaporation lines coming from the holes, it didn't get enough FAE either.

Your mushrooms look just like like mine did, look at the picture in my sig, short tiny mushrooms that grew into maturity early.  My substrate was too wet.

Also, look how your mushrooms are glistening like they are loaded with moisture, that is because they are; mine were too.

No thats not the case.. they got plenty of FAE. If you read the thread you'll see that I allowed too much air movement into the fruiting chamber which fucked up the humidity.

The whole grow started to get better as soon as I stuffed the holes at correct density and started misting to raise humidity.

They're glistening because I misted shortly before taking pics

These guys nailed it and helped me understand what was going on:
