Identification Request
    #21005915 - 12/21/14 12:10 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Habitat:
California West Coast, Deciduous Woods and forest area, about 15 minutes from coast in mountainous area

Gills:
White/creamy color, Gills appear to be slightly attached but I'm not experienced to say it is definite, some short gills from outside towards center. Also some gills have an extremely slight fork at end towards outside, medium to cramped distance of Gills

Stem:
seems to be between 4-6 inches more or less, no definite diameter but if it helps they are on average about the circumference of a pencil between the mature and younger looking ones, white/creamy color with tan tinge.. almost seems to be same color as gills, smooth in texture, stem is holow, seems to be thin to me but am not sure in comparison to other mushrooms.

Cap:
seems to be about 1 to 3.5 inches, dark brown pointy nub on top which fades out to a lighter tan color on edges of cap, texture seems to be consisted of ridges radiating out from center towards outside.. not noticeable at first until closer inspection for this post, conical and convex in younger ones and more flat with more mature larger ones.. Also with more mature larger ones they can appear concave on edges and curving up once again in center towards large brown dimple in center

Spore print color:
Barely learning how to do and still working on, will update this post when I have one but was hoping for a possible ID in the meantime

Bruising:
cannot tell if the mushroom is bruising into a color

Other information:
mushroom has earthy wood and rain smell. Could be just because we've just had a lot of rain out here! perhaps it washed out the smell of what the mushroom could have had or maybe I just cant' get anything out of it.. hmmm...

Hard to tell but I see no no bruises. I would say its not anything with actives, cool looking though.

Thanks, I was hoping it would be psilocybe azurescens, but I guess I didn't get so lucky on my first hunt haha. Would it hurt to make a tea and see if it had any effect?

I wouldn't make tea outve em. You could die.  Always look for blue bruising. Its very easily identified, you'll know it when you find em.

lol, sounds like it's pretty unanimous so I'll stay away from the Tea haha. Thanks for the tip on looking for bruising in general as that is something that definitely helps out. Guess I'm just excited and looking forward to having my first "magic mushroom" experience. Already planning on spending the day tomorrow hiking and hunting so hoping I'll find something then and see what the verdict is! Much appreciated and thanks for the all the help again guys!

If you did not say that I probably would have guessed Phaeocollybia californica.
You know the west coast mushrooms way better than I do.:yesnod:
