Success at last! (And monotub Q's) * 1
    #21006111 - 12/21/14 02:06 AM (10 years, 29 days ago)

After A LOT of trial and error, I've finally gotten my bulk game down, at least to an extent that is adequate for my purposes. Haven't moved onto tubs yet, but buckets treat me nicely and I've been able to achieve my goal of operating in a state of nearly perpetual harvest. It's all thanks to you folks! Learned everything I know right here. So yeah. Thanks a billion. This practice has slowly but surely become less of a hobby and more of a part of who I am. Have a long way to go but I feel like I've finally graduated from Newb-dom at least. Cheers!

Thanks again!

So I finally made the move to tubs. I have one tub that's fruiting on top of another that's still colonizing.

Looks like a decent pinset, but they are maturing very slowly. It's been 5 or 6 days and they haven't budged much. Has me a bit worried.

The few that are close look like they're going to be short and fat. Some with skinny caps and some with skinny stems at the base. There are also a lot of fuzzy feet and snowy caps, which I've read that more FAE is the solution to. I already had a fan pointed in the direction of the top tub, but not directly on it. However, it's a weak fan and it didn't seem to be doing the job, so I've moved it right up next to it, still pointed off to the side but some of the air is probably hitting the tub directly. There's still moisture on the substrate so I don't think it's too dry. Does anyone think this fan placement will be a problem for the bottom tub that's still colonizing?

Speaking of the bottom tub, I noticed that there is a ton of raised mycelium. Like balls of it. I know there's a term for this but there are two or three of them that I always confuse. I tried to snap a pic through the lid. This is the best I could get.

I've never seen so much myc in that state on a colonizing sub before. Does this mean possibly that I should expect early pins, and thus probably have a contamination? The tub has been colonizing for 7 days. The first one finished in 11 I believe. If anyone has anything they think is worth mentioning, I'm all ears. Just trying to cover all of my bases. Don't wanna lose these pups.

Face that fan in a diff direction u want it facing away from ur tubs. U want air movement in the room. Too much air movement and your forcing fae.

Right, but it doesn't seem to do much otherwise. The air isn't really on the tub as much as it is over it and to the side mostly.

I have moved it now though. I wanted to see how quickly it would dry the walls out at certain distances.

Well I mean I know that you're supposed to have a fan near, but not pointed directly at the tub, or it will dry it out. But like I said, the fan I'm using is total shit, so I thought it may have been necessary. Turned out to be too much when placed that close. I should note that I currently have three fans running in the room, actually. (Getting an air conditioner soon). I was worried about it being too much air, but the sub doesn't seem to be dry and like I said, I'm still getting a lot of fuzz. I know it's harmless but I'm more concerned about the tub on the bottom that's still colonizing. I wonder if too much circulating air in the room will have a negative impact.

Also ur holes don't look like theve been suffed properly. Kinda looks like u have cotton instead of polyfill. Also too tight. And u need one more hole on each side put them high. Search up how to properly dial your monotub.

I can't comment on the FAE but that pin set is looking real nice.

I'm familiar. It's not cotton. It's polyfil. I see monos on here with 6 holes all of the time. Pretty sure they're supposed to be stuffed tightly on the bottoms. They're loose on the top, and the top holes are placed as high as they can be.

Thank you. I thought so too. Unfortunately, it looks as though the fruits will be small. Hopefully they'll be potent though.

I can accept that maybe there is too much of the polyfil in the bottom holes, but it was hard to stuff them without the excess. Maybe trim it down? Anybody know if it would make a real difference?

Yeah it needs to be FIRM and tight. You could use a lot less on the bottom holes and make it a lot more tight. I know it's a bitch to work with. Especially if it isn't real polyfil like mine and yours. I use polyester stuffing and it's way too thin.. it takes a long time but you gotta make it stuffed tight enough for you not to be able to fit your finger tip into the side of it. You have enough holes don't worry.

my bottom holes are as tight as I said and I only needed a little more than a whole handful.

My fans at the other side of the room oscillating into the corner on the lowest setting. Just to put into perspective why your fan is doing too much fae.

Any thoughts on why these pins might be taking such a crazy long time to mature? It's been nearly a week and they are still crawling. Should I be worried about a contamination at this point?

Could just need another day or 2  I'd be worried if it was like 10 days

Give them a drink of water. Nothing wrong with having to spritz you mono's while you're getting the feel of things. But yeah, give them a healthy spray and I bet you'll see movement again. :goodluck:
