First agar attempt
    #21003232 - 12/20/14 01:38 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Here are the first results using Helltick's Grocery Store Agar Tek . I found this tek to be extremely easy to use (once I constructed my SAB) and so far am contam free with happy myc fuzzing up the jars. Here's hoping the rest of the process goes as smooth!

that's a LOT of satelite germination. better take some transfers quick!
that 3rd one has grown out a bit too much for my liking for a 1st plate,
never know what germinated in there..

I think its easier/better to just have the spores centered in 1 spot in the jar
so you know where the growth is supposed to come from!

Im still a complete noob to agar so could you please explain why transferring to different agar is important? As far as the satellite germination, these guys were inoculated using spore syringes so I don't know if that would explain it....my original plan was to let the agar colonize then create a living inoculate with sterilized water in a syringe. From there knock up some was pints before going into a mono-tub

you want to transfer healthy growth to new plates to make sure you're only growing healthy cube myc.

if you just inoc and use that first plate you'll let everything that was on the print/in the syringe start to grow
and that's what we're trying to evade with agar!

my pleasure
agar is a lot of fun I think
just had a species germinate from an almost engulfing bacteria
I would have wasted weeks finding out the syringe was contaminated
but with agar I'm now looking at two isolated strong looking growths
with a few more transfers I can be ready to inoculate my grains
feels great, good luck with your project :super:
