Problems with growing Agaricus bisporus
    #20992907 - 12/18/14 06:41 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Hello
I grow Agaricus bisporus around 4 years in 3 tunnels. Last 6,7 months I have some issues all the time, lack of mushrooms, Cobweb, Green mold, Verticillium fungicola. Green mold sometimes shows in the cover. I tried everything, changed compost, different cover soil, change in growing process. Tunnels are clean, and cleaned every time before new compost and no any fly inside.
My English is not so good if you don't understand something, but please some advice, I don't know what's the real problem.

Sounds like you are a commercial grower.  I Would call a consultant if your operation is in trouble.  Sounds serious.

Sounds like a phase II issue.  The green mold on casings is hard to shake in a large operation and is almost always an occurrence but usually is manageable.

Do you phase II in your tunnels or in another area and forklift in the trays?

All of the phases happens in the tunnel, no removal in another area.

This is happening right now, I was expecting to harvest in the next 2,3 days but it's just mycelium.
Everything is done as before, but no mushrooms.
Shu thank you for the book

I'm no pro but, did you change the strain you use? How healty/old is it? Not to question your skills but myc degeneration comes as a possibility.
How about your compost? Everything same? Supplier of grains? Temperature, humidity, fae? Did you change anything at all before problems started? If you did, that factor(s) could be your problem..

You said that you have tried everything. What was the change in the growing process? Where does your spawn come from?

I changed the compost company but no difference, before it was just one type cover soil, in the last few months it's two types.
Everything else is the same as it was. This summer I cleaned the tunnels.
April I had 37% in one tunnel it was amazing and unbelievable, but after that...
Does it affects the fresh air while compost incubation, and few days after I cover the compost with soil, till I don't know how this is called, I thing digging the cover soil, thats around 1 week after covering.
Now i let in more fresh air than before.

Where does your spawn come from? Do you buy it? Do you generate it yourself? Where do you get your mushroom genetics? The woods? Culture bank? As psyder said "Myc degeneration" also know as senescence may be your issue. Old depleted mycelium has a much harder time protecting itself from contamination.

How long have you been into mushroom cultivation? It seems as if you recently acquired this mushroom farm. Can you give us some background on your story and your farm? The more details and info you give us the better your chances are of one of us being able to help you.

If you changed compost suppliers and these problems started, maybe there is your problem.  Can you go back to the old supplier?

But really, sounds like weak culture and not enough air, i case all i do with unpasteurised soil and if i give a bit less than optimal fae contams bloom, how about cleaning the air filters? They may be obstructing your usual air flow. And if your new casing soil has lower pH than the last consider adding some lime... All i can think about right now...

I work this almost 4 years.
I was back to the old compost supplier previous time.
Psyder I think this is a good idea to try something with the air, I'm trying with more fresh this time but i guess it doesn't changed nothing to better, and yes the new casing soil has lower pH but I'm adding lime.

Your situation resembles something i read before.
The case was that the mushroom mycelium some guy used was contaminated with bacteria, something like fused with bactera. The result was that spawn colonized as it should, but there were problems afterwards. I think that substrate got colonized, it made first flush and got contaminated with mold, or it got contaminated even before - during flush or even before.
Maybe somthing could be wrong with spawn. How long is the colonization time of compost compared to when you had success? Even if it is the same it doesnt mean your spawn is clean.

Sounds strain related to me. Try running a few different ones and see if they perform differently. Bisporus is pretty picky. Air exchange, temps, casing and compost pH etc can all be at play. Casing may be contaminated as well potentially.
