Mushroom Identification Please

Hello to everyone. This is my first post for id since I've joined the site/forum. I wanted to first thank everyone who made this site possible for people such as myself, as I believe it is going to be a very valuable resource to start my education in mushroom identification. So "thank you".
This particular mushroom was found in the backyard in a spot where a tree had been cut down last year. It sprouted overnight after a light rain. I apologize for not knowing what kind of tree it was, I only know that it created the green dangling pollen-shedding catkins which turned brown when they fell off and dried up and my wife was allergic to it so we had the tree removed. This mushroom and others like it have begun to grow in clusters around where the tree stump used to be.
Species #1
Habitat: Found where a tree stump used to be in backyard.
Gills: Brown-ish, Creme color, protruding slightly from underneath.
Stem: Spongy but solid, not very easily broken without damaging cap, had to be cut.
Cap: Creme colored with dark brown discoloration towards the center and brown-ish ring around outside rim.
Bruising: No apparent bruising.
General location: South Texas.

I'd probably call it something close to Pluteus cervinus.

I think you may be right. Wikipedia says it's edible, but after seeing that spore print, I think I'll pass. Just out of curiosity, because I've never eaten mushrooms outside of a grocery store before, is there any special process to clean them to get all of the spores out, like should they be soaked overnight or anything or are the spores considered edible?

Try digging one up down deep at the base and look for a sack-like volva. I think they might be Volvariella gloiocephala
