nice. I see the plugs in your pics where you inoculated that tree. what did you put in the hole before plugging it?
I've pulled specimens from the woods around my house, pried off a patch of bark from a recently fallen L. tulipifera, and simply placed a piece of a Pleurotus cap on the newly exposed cambium & phloem layers to cultivate this species. I just put the outer corky bark over the piece of cap to hold it in place but did nothing else and had pretty decent results.

i had few dried ones my friend bought in supermarket and forgot to eat. after he gave me i saw big fallen oak in the forest and got to idea to try to grow them. i drilled the holes and just put pieces of mushrooms inside and closed it with plugs. 6 months later there was results from the picture. i remember log was very wet which is also important if you want to try something similar.

Cool finds!
I think Agrocybe aegerita is now called Cyclocybe aegerita.
Gymnopilus sapineus and G. penetrans are apparently synonyms - at least that's what I keep hearing from the Norwegian mycologists.

i heard for agrocybe few weeks ago. its recent change, from this summer i think.
for gymnopilus - those are two very different species i found. i asked myologists for opinion on both, and they agreed.
