Psilocybe medullosa in Europe
    #20988490 - 12/17/14 11:40 AM (2 years, 7 months ago)

Hi ,
I need your opinion:

In auvergne region in france today.
It starts froze since 1 week only.
* altitude 1000 m. Growing on a pine clearing area ( maybe 3-2 years ago ? )
    * color; brown then when it become drying yellowish
    * the stem length : 1 to 10cm
    * the cap diameter : 1 to 5 cm
    * Spore print color: brown ( I'm waiting for a nice print...but they look more brown than purple ?? )
    * Scent of the mushroom : semileanceata ;-)
    * not really separatable gelatinous pelicle
    * not blussing ( or just a little bit on some myc )

.......???.....they are similar as "silvatica" but ????...:confused:
thanks for your help...

Interesting. Nice collection, too.

Compare between Psilocybe silvatica and Psilocybe pelliculosa. DNA sequencing will be helpful with identifying this collection.

Below are descriptions from The Genus Psilocybe by Dr. Gaston Guzman.

Only referring to what I've seen in pictures, this looks more promising for P. pelliculosa than P. silvatica/medullosa, imo.

If possible take several prints, and pictures of them. Gill shots and close up shots of the stem(s) would help a lot.

You sure there is/was no pellicle?

If you can, you should keep checking this spot regularly the next week, as often as possible.

the stems are darker than semilanceata. dark and white top down. there is a separate gellatinous on the cap, but it is very fragile and difficult to remove on the small mush.

I showed this thread to Jan Borovicka and he said that this is probably Psilocybe medullosa.  Better photos and a spore print would help - some Galerina species can look similar.

He also said that P. pelliculosa was reported from Europe, probably erroneously.

Psilocybe medullosa is the European version of P. silvatica.

P. fuscofulva is the more correct name for Psilocybe atrobrunnea.

....

I found this mush in a place of pin's forest (probably pinus sylvestris)  who was clearing 2 or 3 years ago, just next to a carex field of semilenceata.
I found it Only in one place, big as 100 square meter, and it was a big flush ( weathers conditions was nice... almost snowing and cold ^^)

More pictures:

Nice size:

pellicule not really present:

spore print more brown than purple ? :

let's dream...:sun:

Seems to me Psilocybe medullosa is a good match, looking at the following Swedish finds
of Phaeogalera medullosa which is a former name for it.
