switching between fruiting and colonizing phases
    #2098331 - 11/12/03 08:00 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Heres the deal, my friend cold shocked a casing, and put it in the fruiting chamber. He then realized that he should probably patch case a lil and let the mycelium grow through that before fruiting, so he cased a lil bit, recovered it and put it back in the warmer colonizing chamber. He's then gonna take the casing and put it back in the fruiting chamber when its ready. Does anyone have experience with situations like these where the casings made to go back and forth between the 2 phases? Successes or Failures? Thanks
~M

From what I've been reading lately - particular by folks like Cervantes, is that temp cycling like that before you fruit often results in bigger flushes.

Mr. Anderson recently did this with some casings he was doing - and they were kicking ass (really quickly starting to form pins) until they got a bad case of blue-green moldies. *sigh*

Ive read about that, but my problem is that I birthed too early and i want them to go back into colonizing phase. any suggestions?

You can simply recase it, if you want.

depends how long it's been birthed for, had a WBS casing that had been birthed for quite a while and after first flush, broke it up mixed with wet verm, and had a second flush of 100 times greater weight. after being broken was re-cased and placed back in incubator. Go for it.

if it's been re-cased put it back in incubator let grow, patch, birth.
