Trich ID? The Real Pachanoi?
    #20976127 - 12/14/14 04:35 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

I've been trying to find some genuine "non-PC" Pachanoi, made friends with the owner of a local cactus nursery and he had these in the back.  Seem like real pachanoi to me but maybe they're a short spined peruvianus...  What do you guys think?  This thing is 4-5' long and and 5-6" thick.  Beautiful plant either way, but I'm hoping I finally have the real San Pedro.

Probably grown in the sun.  They tend to go more yellowish in full sun.

This thing is an effing beast.  I don't know if I'll be able to keep it from etiolating here in Oregon, but I'll enjoy looking at it for a while at least. Wherever it was grown it got LOTS of sun.

gnarly tricho man, that main branch in the first pic looks like it was semi monstrose for a while before continuing it's normal growth. Bit of luck it will revert back to monstrose growth as you continue to grow it out :awethumb:

That would be most excellent, my only fear is that my northern climes will have this thing skinnier than my wrist in a couple of years... :facepalm3:

Not that I would butcher a specimen like this, but are non-PC pachs generally assumed to be "potent" in the active alkaloid department?

I was going to point out the same thing too

One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree.
'Which road do I take?' she asked.
'Where do you want to go?' was his response.
'I don't know', Alice answered.
'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

Yeah, I had my choice of a few and that growth drew me in.  I love the few odd snarl tooth long spines it has.  This guy's greenhouse was heaven.

I've only ever seen a few pachanoi monstrose clones before but only pictures . I love how many different trichocereus there are though.

It usually depends on a few different factors as to whether you have a potent clone or not, I got rid of all my PC's after i didn't trip off 2 feet of 9 - 10" thick cacti. Usually a good starting dose is around a foot of 5" thick cacti either bridgesii or non-pc pachanoi, they don't really like talking about dosing or consumption here though so if you want either :pm: or make a thread in TPE. :thedude:

Thanks for the info, I just like knowing that it is probably potent or at least not a PC, I have plenty of those already and use them for grafting stock, but I wanted something showy for the collection.  I have plenty of smaller bridgesii to munch on if I needed to trip, this is now by far my nicest trichocereus and will be left intact.

I find it happens frequently with T. bridgesii, either early or late in the season. Maybe OP's plant is a hybrid of some sort?
