How do you pressure cook a jar full of liquid?

This isn't exactly a cultivation question directly, but it seems like this best place for it. I've sterilized agar before no problem in jars, though I tend to only fill them about halfway. I've been trying to cook some jars to make a liquid culture however and I want to fill it nearly all of the way, at least 7/8ths or so. I've tried twice now and both times my jars have cracked and they only have about 1/4th cup of liquid or so left in them. What am I doing wrong? I'm not cooling the PCer too quickly, I allow it to drop down naturally. Do I need to put a lot more water in it to hold the temperature longer or something maybe?

I believe you can steam sterilize LC. That aside...
When it's time to stop pressure cooking turn the stove off and let the pressure drop and cool on it's own before you remove the weight or lid or anything.

That's exactly what I did. I'm wondering if it had something to do with the liquid in the jars being cooler than the liquid in the PCer? I used warm tap water for the PCer and room temp water for the jars. Previous to that I used cold water for the jars and lost less liquid with the room temp water, maybe if I heat it up first?

I've tried three different kinds. One has one, I wanna say 1/4 inch hole, stuffed with polyfill, the other has 1/4 inch with felt glued on, and the third has 4 or 5 1/8th inch holes with a SFD glued on. When I've done agar I just use a regular mouth lid with no holes.

Cool, thanks, I was thinking it was something along those lines. The crack is always at the bottom too, right at the water level. I'll give it another run and report how it goes.

That's the opposite of what it is. The jars cracked on the cool down after the PC cycle.
As the steam pressure slowly dropped in the PC, the water within the jar stayed at 250F/121C. You can fix this next time by making the level of water in the PC equal to the level of water in the jar so they both cool down together. RR

That seemed to work. I still had a little loss, maybe 1/8 of a cup at best, but it probably just boiled over from being so full, I filled it up to the neck. Thanks guys.
