Living in the present moment?
    #20975904 - 12/14/14 03:28 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

All these new age spiritual authors and figureheads talk about living in the present moment etc.

How is living in the present moment different then what meth addicts do?

I have been meditating a shitton daily and noticed a huge difference in quality of life. But I am still not sure how smoking meth 24/7 isnt living in the present moment

Smoking meth is not a good way to live in the present

Speed addicts are just chasing a good feeling that can never truly last

i'd say smoking meth 24/7 would lead to a life where you're NEVER in the present moment, except for that initial release after a hit.  once that wears down, you're constantly infatuated with the future - with securing the next hit.

given that only a few people in this world have the financial capabilities to NEVER have to worry about securing the funds for the next hit, i'd say that most meth addicts can't achieve what you're talking about in your OP, OP.

Technically yes they are

Doesn't change the fact that such a lifestyle is just a dark road to ruin

That isn't what being in the present moment is about. Not even close.

To live fully in the present moment is to be aware of your surroundings, be fully conscious and alert, take in the multitudes of beauty all around you, laugh and spread joy, be playful and curious, release all worries and thoughts that no longer serve your intention of being happy in the present moment by simply existing.

I don't find ice to be that fiendish compared to cocaine, or APVP IME.

Living in the present is the only way to truly live and enjoy life IMO.

Living in the past or future is a waste of time and life IMO and IME it leads to stress, depression, anxiety and overall unhappiness with life.

The thing I've learned most from benzos is that you'll be a lot happier if you stop giving a fuck.

Living in the present doesn't mean being a meth addict it just means not caring about the past or the future and just enjoying every minute instead of being worried about shit that's happening 2 weeks from now or something you fucked up last month.

Also a thing I've learned from opiates is to stop thinking so much and just enjoy the life...

I do have a severe drug problem but anyone can live in the moment; Sober people, Crackheads and everyone in between.

the funny thing is that no matter what you're doing, you're always living in the present moment whether you like it or not.

try living even 10 minutes ago or 10 minutes later. you can't do it.

now, being aware of the present is different. however, even if you're not aware, you're still in the present.

Personally I found hard drugs and empathogens gave me much more insight than any psychedelics which just changed my perspective mainly for the better but overall I'm starting to regret tripping so often TBH.

HPPD that is not getting better after months of no psyches and severely unstable moods that was mostly caused by incense but psyches made it worse.  It changed me forever, for better or worse.  But I change my mind I don't regret it at all, it was an experience and it showed me a lot of things not many of which I could apply to my life but a very interesting perspective change. :sun:

The present moment includes every instant of time - the past, the present, and the future. Every instant is a unit of time making up the eternal NOW, like how puzzle pieces each make up the entire puzzle.

The true meaning of being aware of the present is to know all instants of time - to be omniscient.

Sorry to hear that. I've had similar side effects but on a much smaller scale.

If you're familiar with the concept of grounding at all I would recommend it. Definitely something that personally helped a lot with any less-than-pleasant residual effects from a gnarly trip.

Tried it once, hated it.

Sometimes psychoactives (especially synthetic ones) can aggravate latent mental conditions.

This too.
I feel that the diffeence between my new, more "mindful" lifestyle versus a meth addict lifestyle is that I live in the present, but am 100% aware of the future as well
