big oysters with a pest ?
    #20975039 - 12/14/14 11:46 AM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Today i found the biggest oystermushrooms i ever saw. But a lot of them have little round ''balls'' on the gills and sometimes on the stem or top. The balls sometimes look a bit fuzzy. I'm thinking of parasitic fungus or eggs from insects. Does anyone have a clue?
And would there be a reason besides ''yuck'' not to eat them?

Those little balls could be slug, snail or some kind of insect poop.
Was there any shiny trails on them, I cant expand your pics so I can't get a close look at em.
They should be ok if you wash and fully cook them.

I still can't see the balls you are talking about.
They look in their prime and I would eat em, after a good scrub down to remove those little balls.
I've seen some little balls on some of my finds before, they were brown and they were stuck in slug tracks (shiny trails), so it was probably slug kaka.:uhoh:

Here there weren't any slime trails, and the balls are more like off-white.

But we ate a piece and it tasted fine!  so even if they are insect-eggs, it just means they are protein-enhanced-mushrooms!
