Trametes versicolor?
    #20972111 - 12/13/14 05:15 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Alright, pictures one and two is the specimens in question. In the third image and fourth image it is on the right. The pores seem smaller and it doesn't look quite the same. I am pretty sure The ones on the left are both versicolor. I think the top two pics and the one on the right may be Trametes hirsuta? Or is it also versicolor, but just older or something? Thanks.

Yeah its always worth a look. The time might be better spent looking for Panaeolus though. I kept an eye out for the elusive Psilocybe pellicosa, but no luck. Just a ton of mycena for the most part. One days I will find them.

Here's a turkey tail I thought it was a neat pic so I thought I'd throw it up.

Looks like turkey tails to me. I'd throw em in a tea.

If you want to make extra sure you can follow this key

Yeah I actually did follow that key. I just can't really tell how many holes per mm. I need to buy a damn loop already. Just figured someone might be able to tell.

I've followed it before and that looks to me like the right size holes. I have this mini 60-100x microscope that made it clearer when I held up a ruler to it.

Honestly even if they aren't the right sized holes, it's just another species of Trametes which is certainly nonpoisonous and likely has medicinal compounds (polysaccharides, etc.) anyway.

Someone  who appears to be reputable on MO voted on Osmoporus odoratus for both of these collections. Mine are the only Osmoporus odoratus observations on MO. I looked it up on Mycobank and it didn't even look that similar. Gloeophyllum odoratum is the current name for it. The more I try and get into IDing the more confused I am getting.

You guys seem to be in agreement though. Alright thanks guys and gals, I appreciated it. I'll brew these fellas up.

Yeah thanks. None of my specimens are "distinctly lamellate to daedaloid" which is how P. Karst describes the genus of Gloeophyllum. That did confuse me for a bit though. :smirk:

I think the one in the middle is Trametes ochracea. The pore sizes are too large for T. Versicolor. The one on the left I think is T. Versicolor because of the smaller pores, but the coloring resembes T. ochracea more. The one on the right I am pretty positive is T. Versicolor because it has black zones and the smaller pore size. Here is a better pic of the suspected T. ochracea.
