First time - overnight growth - mould?
    #20971483 - 12/13/14 02:20 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys,

This is my first post, and my first growth experiment. These are king oysters in a 2 gallon pail, started from inoculated substrate.

This is day 16. Everything was looking pretty good until I checked in this morning. The bright white patch in the second image is my concern. There is clearly some mould in there, i can see the green growth, but it looks like the white on top (unsure if mycelium) of it is, like, overtaking it. Is this something that happens? I cut into a bit to take a look and that bright white patch is only on the surface, hasn't penetrated through the soil.

I'm assuming if this is mould, I either let the mycelium try to fight it, or just cut it out. Or throw it all away? Is it possible any of the mycelium in this bucket would still be worth saving? I'm thinking maybe I should sterilize a few jars and cut out some of the mycelium from this and try to have it spread so that I have some myc. to restart with in a fresh batch.

Anyway, any advice is appreciated here, I realize this is a pretty hodge-podge operation I'm running, as it's my first go.

That bright white is trichoderma. It also looks to have a bacterial problem. Time to start again mate.

Unfortunate.

If I were to cut some of the mycelium out where there is no sign of that, would that be worth pursuing?

Nah, just cut your losses and dump it before it sporulates and contams your grow area.
