Why do groups of people want to collectively convince themselves that life is like a movie? 1

Do you ever find yourself wondering why groups of people, especially when drunk, seem to carry subtle undertones that suggest they all want to believe that whatever is happening at any given point in time is like something out of a movie scene?
It's kind of like, it feels good and comforting to share concepts that everyone can relate to entirely, and so there's a tendency towards trying to narrow down the amount of information that is being processed by all to make this happen as quickly as simply as possible. On top of the social praise that comes with saying the most relatable concepts - which causes the sensation of humor, a lot of times the context of conversations and group flow seems to dwindle more and more to the point where simple things become taken for granted and a pronounced lack of meaning and significance is what is actually strived for in conversations.
Do you understand what i'm talking about? What do you think about this?

I seen this, it's annoying. Sometimes you self-consciously participate in it and just want to punch whoever is responsible for it, because it can't possibly be you.
I think that films have a humongous influence on our consciousness. Most of us don't tend to think about it this way, but they are a product that we consume, and we are what we eat.

I remember saying "last night was something out of a movie" a lot when I was younger and my friends and I got away with something crazy, if that's what your talking about.
I think like you said its just because cliches and stereotyped situations are easy to use to describe a situation. When people are drunk or just lazy they don't want to take the time to explain the whole situation and everything it meant, I don't think there is anything wrong with that. Everyone takes short cuts

I think people like to capitalize on each other's feelings. Reciprocal notions can foster agreement within a group. People like to feel as though they belong to something. Conversely, anomie leaves one stranded from any kind of normality.
If one conforms, then they will be able to capitalize on their feelings by telling other group members of their fitting sensibilities

Do you think people are actually choosing to " collectively convince themselves that life is like a movie"? Or is it just something that's happening to them organically? It kinda sounds like you're describing mass hysteria to me. I thought my life turned into a Federico Fellini movie one night, it was insane. Then the PCP wore off and I was just sitting in my living room wearing a bathrobe with the lights off.
Is it possible that you're just imagining that people are thinking this way because it helps you to process their actions?

all I had to do was read the title of this post and I was like "HOLY FUCK SOMEONE ELSE UNDERSTANDS!!" People are fucking weird the way they live life so closely to societal models that are set by pop culture and act exactly the way they see media stars acting in flicks.

No offense meant man, but it kinda sounds like you had a half-baked thought and just used it to shoe-horn another thread onto the Pub's front page. So by that logic, this thread is "trash", but if you can flesh out and articulate this premie of a concept, I'd be interested to read it.

Is there no LNC tonight? I refuse to go to the second page to look for it, or even really read most of the thread titles on the first page. If there isn't, rename this "FRIDAY LNC FOR THE PUB" and just run with it. This thread has a good head-start anyhow.
Man, I have been watching a lot of Game of Thrones lately. I love how the writers don't give a fuck who gets killed off. It's great when a show has the balls to let a main character die at a totally random time. My favorite character is Danaerys Stormborn (LOL) because she's the only one with any kind of true power and legitimacy. Also, the actress that plays her is going to play Sarah Connor in the new Terminator movie and seeing how talented she is makes me stoked for Genisys. And Peter Dinklage is so fucking good too. Really loving this one.

are you talking about the stuff discussed in fight club? Like how we are all brought up to think that we are all going to be successful stars yet most people dont and end up buying crap they dont need with money they dont have.
Or that people just try to imitate movies cause they think its cool whats wrong with that?
