So far, major success with Solian
    #20959256 - 12/10/14 07:55 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

Started 400mg Solian about a week ago and I'm currently feeling far, far more sane and really good inside / high 'well-being'.

I have schizophrenia / schizoaffective with no voices or hallucinations just delusions, disorganised thought and anxiety/paranoia primarily in public. Also been in QUITE a low mood through most of it (suicidal).

As of today no delusions, thought is only slightly disorganised, no anxiety or paranoia, and like I said I feel REAL good.

Apparently the medication is unique. It works as a dopamine agonist (effectively) at 50-200mg and from 400mg upwards it's a dopamine inhibitor (antipsychotic), it also increases serotonin in the synapse by blocking reuptake at 5-HT7. I think therefore I am having an effective antipsychotic effect with some mood increase.

It's the first antipsychotic to make me feel kinda normal and not so FUCKING down and anxious, and scared.

Unfortunately not available in the U.S. but maybe you can get it online from certain places.

Just throwing it out there. One of my psychiatrists said she'd had a lot of success with Solian and not with others like Abilify, which I had been on recently.

Yay me. Hope this keeps up. May increase dose too. :mindblown: Pic related it's me on Solian.

Good to hear.

Has it also helped you with starting functional behaviors that make the difference long term?

Outdoor exercise?
Socializing?

If you're still doing the same stuff that happens mostly indoors, or worse mostly on your computer, then IMO in a few weeks/months you'll end up in the same head space you were in here.

So to clarify, I'm not saying anything bad about your nice mood pill, I'm very glad it works. I'm just saying that if you just got a nice effective mood boost from it, now's the time to use that boost and start striking the iron while it's hot. Get out more, move more, grow more, do the things that you previously avoided because of anxiety and so on. Good luck

True true.

I went out today more than usual cos my anxiety was at an all time low.

Feels good to be part of it all again.

Yes, exercise and being outdoors are great for the mind, body and spirit; but some schizophrenics are unable to function normally EVER without taking anti-psychotics.

I wish you would not dispense advice like this as if you are qualified in any way, shape or form to diagnose or treat complicated conditions like schizophrenia.

OP, having been through this with my sister, I want to say I am so happy that you've found what sounds like a good dose of the right medicine. I think my sister is on risperidone, and has been for a year. It was such a relief once she finally got on it, because she almost killed herself last Christmas. The past year has been such a 180 for her - she's got a job, her own place, is spending more time with her daughter.

Honey dearest, I wasn't dispensing medical advice, I was suggesting to use the newly found break from anxiety in an active way, constructively, as opposed to simply going through the same old patterns as if taking a pill is all it takes. If you'll take a look at that thread I linked, you'll see behavior loops that would get the healthiest of humans to their knees, mood-wise.

Schizophrenia is much more complicated than you think. It's not something that can be easily healed through hiking and taking walks in nature, and all the rest of way you prescribe to literally every person who posts here seeking advice.

You're suggesting to the OP that if he does not go hiking he may end up experiencing psychosis again, and I think that's a dangerous thing to say to someone who's just now experiencing relief from delusions related to being in public as well as being suicidal.

You've already been warned for treating another suicidal member tactlessly.

OP  - take things slowly, at your own pace! There's no rush.

Where, pray tell, other than the inside of your own head, have I suggested he'll be "experiencing psychosis" again?

I've simply seen a pattern of physical inactivity and staying alone indoors, and last I checked that does lead to crappy moods, insufficient lymph circulation, that kinda thing. I am reminding OP to do what he can to improve his activity levels, if he so desires, and IMO he got my message very much like it was intended. Like a friendly suggestion to get outside and enjoy some health benefits of movement and nature, as opposed to having to do it, under some imagined threat of psychosis returning. I said no such thing.

Furthermore you may want to take a look at how you formulate things. I've framed my suggestion in positive terms, go out there and do nice things, and also OP has replied in positive terms (that he did go out and enjoyed it, yay for all). Your post here is highly negative, dealing with threat, disease, warning, all manner of impending doom. Of course they're your posts and you're free to bring any energy you want to them, I'm just saying it's a bit dubious to express yourself in this way and then point fingers at me for being "tactless"
