Black, furry wood ear fungi. edible?
    #20955685 - 12/10/14 12:46 AM (9 years, 5 months ago)

I suspect this is perhaps a 'cloud fungi ear'?

Habitat:Growing on the surface of a dead tree, likely a hardwood.

Gills: porous, very small however as the inner surface feels rubbery. dark crimson color.

Stem: very short, almost non-existent

Cap: light brown, furry in texture like fine felt

Bruising: N/A

General location: Mid-North coast NSW, Australia. growing in the open on the side of an upright dead tree, direct sunlight has dried out a large group of the fungi.

images are of fresh fungi with a dried specimen at the end.

I'd call it a cloud fungi ear due to the hairy upper surface. Would of been nice to see shots of them in habitat, next time maybe. I think it's Auricularia cornea, the old name was Auricularia polytricha.

Check this cool link out if you haven't already>>http://australianfungi.blogspot.se/2010/07/34-auricularia-cornea.html
