Chunk of my PF broke off...still good?
    #20949007 - 12/08/14 07:05 PM (9 years, 5 months ago)

I misted like usual and I handled the cake to see if there was any pins/contams on the bottom. I know, this was a poor decision on my part. It was the first time I touched it, and the last. The cake is pinning, but stalled, because it got dry because I wasn't misting the cake itself and didn't dunk it because It began to pin in the jar.

So a top piece of the cake broke off. Probably about the size of 1 and a half quarters. a know, just a nice little chunk.

Will this effect the pinset/growth?

I can take a picture if you guys need me too

Pictures are always good.  Just a warning: the only time I've experienced cakes that crumble upon gentle handling, it turned out they'd been weakened by the green.

It was right after I misted so they were wet. Hopefully that was the reason

I doubt it.  They're supposed to be at least a little wet.  Not visibly but certainly inside.  Dunking shouldn't cause that either.  If a corner sloughs off it's almost always bacterial or otherwise weakened.  The way it breaks is important, if it crumbled and kind of tore from pressure, that could be okay, but depending on how squishy it felt, that could be a bad omen for that cake.
