Hey man, I don't think you are going to have much improved anonimity if you don't take all the other aspects into account. I highly suggest you read this tutorial completely:
https://evilzone.org/anonymity/the-art-of-anonymity-9178

The guys on that forum are legendary when it comes to internet stuff. Actually we should clone the thread and sticky it here maybe?

Enjoy & Be safe

I'm probably unwise for even posting these questions here. I'm trying to do things right but clearly need more research.  Thanks for your help and the link. :securely puts on tinfoil hat:

I've found a forum that I think is better suited to my questions

Okay, one other question and I will call it quits.  Just a cursory read of that site you linked suggests to me that I am definitely using the wrong browser for my clearnet everyday shit, including shroomery.  I use chrome incognito.  Am I reading it wrong, or should I switch to Firefox?

Chrome and firefox are pretty much the same.  Doesn't matter which browser you use, it matters how you use it.

Alan, can you describe your preference for your own "normal" browsing setup?

I use chrome and firefox on linux and windows.  No vpn or tor because no one is really out to get me.

I am also ok with firefox on OSX, but there isn't really any reason to do that.

I'm wondering if it will be increase one's privacy and security to make a truecrypt volume on a hdd, add a virtual machine and only run tor and related programs from there, then keep the disk encrypted when not in use.  Is this overkill from using just a truecrypt container and tor inside of the container?  Would there be any added security or benefit?  I seen lots of tutorials on how to do it but just wondering what you all thought.

This would have no added benefit. Though you are using a VM, the info that is traveling to and from the computer over the internet still has to use your physical computer hardware (wireless or ethernet card).
